I’ve recently been taking BCAAs in powdered form and have had great results. What I usually do to get over the bitter taste quickly is place the powder directly in my mouth and then wash it down quickly with some water. However for the past few days I’ve noticed that when I brush my teeth my gums bleed from just about everywhere the brush contacts, it looks like something out of a horror movie to be honest, and my teeth are just aching in general. I’ve always had good oral hygene and can only think of the BCAAs as the cause.
Are BCAAs taken like this very damaging to teeth/gums in general? I used to mix the powder in a shaker but 80% of the stuff would just clog at the bottom.

Most likely abrasions from putting the powder directly in your mouth. You’d be surprised how the powder particles of just about anything can cut up your mouth when they aren’t mixed well.

Try getting a better mixer bottle, I use a blender bottle and works well, or try adding more water to the mixture you’re creating. I don’t really know what you’re taking, but if you have cheap BCAA’s, they don’t mix well at all. You’re going to need to saturate the hell out of them or shake the shaker continuously after every drink.

Mix some crystal light with it if you can’t stand the taste, but just stop pouring it in your mouth.

BCAAs are just nasty, and I could never get over the taste either. What I do for a lot of powdered supps is what you do except I hold some liquid in my mouth, pour the BCAAs in, shake a little bit, swallow, then keep washing it down with extra liquid. This sounds pretty weird, but if you get this right you can get a lot of stuff down without ever tasting it.

The powder that I have does not mix well at all and I guess that is the culprit as you suggest. I may look into the tablet form of BCAAs or get a better mixing brand.

I do that sometimes too, works really well and you barely taste it, but unfortunately I’ll probably be stopping it as I don’t want a mouth of rotten teeth!
