Powder Straight to the Mouth!

So L-Leucine doesn’t mix very well, and I was in Japan last semester (the all do it like this over there) so I started tossing a scoopfull in my mouth and just washing it down with Surge or water. It works great, honestly.

My questions are:

  1. Can you also do this with creatine? Does powdered creatine need to be dissolved in something prior to ingestion? Is this a really dumb question?

  2. Who else does it like this? For what supps? Be proud!

I’ve done it with everything. I think so far horny goat weed has been the most ‘interesting’. You know the smell of moist rotting wood when you’re deep in the forest? It basically tastes exactly how that smells. Add in some rhodiola for tongue-numbing bitterness, and wash down with some burning apple cidar vinegar. When I mix enough of these powders together and eat them, and I actually get that sad, broken-will feeling. I like it though because I’ve trained myself not to care about taste.

I assume because BCAA’s dissolve pretty well that leucine alone would also. The water mix isn’t horrible in my opinion (but I know others will disagree). The flavor of BCAA’s undissolved is quite nasty. Even a smaller amount in a shake is noticeable. I wouldnt personally take the powder straight because of that.

One thought I had was getting a capsule filler since capsules are really cheap and it would be convenient to have them in pill form and available.

Isn’t creatine better with water for absorption purposes. I never really noticed a taste to it, a slight taste but nothing bad. If it didn’t dissolve completely it would be a slightly gritty.

The bulk bcaa’s and leucine that I use do not dissolve well in water. I use the chasing technique for leucine which works great.

They never will, the BCAA amino acids are hydrophobic in nature, they will never mix with water.

As far as tossing in scoops, I do it with leucine sometimes too.

because it stick to the roof of your mouth and you start gagging. Its the same with all greens supps. I almost died once trying to get my Anti Oxs!

I’ve gone the straight powder route for lots of different supplements…

TAURINE: No problem. Tastes like nothing and easy to swallow.

BETA-ALANINE: This one actually tastes sort of good…there is a sweetness to it.

BCAA: This was a bit rough. The taste isn’t great, but its tolerable. The problem I had was accidentally inhaling a little bit of the powder. Since its a really light powder if you take even the smallest breath you’ll get some in your lungs.

CREATINE ETHYL-ESTER: By far the most vile tasting powder I’ve ever had to get down…and I’ve tried a lot of them. Fruit juice as a chaser was the only way I could manage.

L-TYROSINE: Really similar to Taurine…easy to swallow 5-10 grams at once.

Yeah I try to train myself not to care about taste. The other day I regurgitated something I was eating and my first thought was should I eat it again (I didn’t but only because it went onto the Carpet). My second thought was damn what a waste of nutrition :@

On a side note, has anyone else ever not had enough water when taking bcaa tabs/powder? i coughed up a cloud of white the other week. the bitter taste stayed in my nasal passages for probably an hour.
