BCAA Megadose

Is it more effective at staving catabolism? Or should I stick with BCAA intraworkout and add leucine in between meals?
This came up on the Warrior Diet thread regarding BCAAs and leucine. Layne Norton claims it’s best to consume BCAAs ahead of leucine while in a fasted state. He states the latter can deplete the former. And while this isn’t an issue with a high protein diet, it can become a factor when fasted.
That I have actually read, I assume it would happen because of competitive absorption as BBB has said.

Leucine has an even greater effect on MPS, partly because it is insulinogenic and insulin helps transport aminos into the muscle cells.

I wouldn’t. Insulin + fat do not a lean body make IMO.

BBB
how long would you wait after having leucine to havea pro/fat meal?

If you look at the top he said after the Leucine is absorbed which takes 5-15 minutes follow it up with protein. That partially answers your question. We’ll have to wait untill tomorrow for “BBB Time”

Why is everybody on BCAAs dick if Leucine is the only amino acid of the three that gives us the benefits?

As long as it takes for insulin to have dropped near baseline.

…Which depends on what the post-leucine meal consisted of.

But Ideally I would wait 2 hours. So that’s not to say that I would have the leucine, wait for 2 hours, then have a P+F meal…

…but rather: have the leucine, wait 10 minutes, have a P meal (minimal C and/or F), wait 90-120 minutes, then have a P+F meal.

But that’s my opinion

got it. thanks again

I may be wrong, but according to Biotest

I meant that reading things like what I posted above are why people think they need BCAAs. I wasn’t posting it as fact but rather as how/why people came to the conclusion about BCAAs that they have.

BBB - I understand that leucine is best followed by a source of protein. I know I cannot tolerate casein (as in MAG-10, ANACONDA) and I am still uncertain about whey. Since BCAAs is more of complete protein, I have been consuming those as my peri-workout supplementation. They seem to be working fine, I have been leaning up with strength levels and work capacity improving.

Would you suggest leucine followed by, say egg protein, instead for my peri-workout supplementation? I figured the absorption was too slow to do much good in that time window. (That said I normally have eggs for breakfast a couple of hours before I train in the mornings.)

Well BCAA may be more ‘complete’ but it’s still a poor choice as a follow up to leucine… if that’s what you’re saying.

Why not EAA or an egg white omlette? Or some grilled fish with veg? Obviously this would be PWO, not during. Just have leucine (or BCAA) during, then a shot after, followed by a solid protein meal.

Ultimately though, if it’s working well for you, then maybe it doesn’t need ‘fixing’ yet.

Thanks.

What if we take some Chromium or R-ALA with our post-WO leucine/BCAAs ?
Can we have our post-WO pro/fat meal sooner than 2 hours ?
