The first time I heard about Lyle was actually in reference to Berardi’s Massive Eating set of articles. I’ve also seen articles by Coach Hale (I believe he’s quite the Lyle McDonald supporter as well) ripping Berardi a new one.
When ME Reloaded came out, I caught wind of more of their articles and posts, talking about how Berardi had gone back on his original diet advice as espoused in the original Massive Eating series.
The other big thing I remember about Lyle was his discussion of leptin, and planned cheats and overfeeds. That was a big crux of his methodology as I believed he drew a lot from Bodyopus, and really refined the CKD thing.
I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but he certainly doesn’t have the professionalism of Berardi. In terms of his advice, it simply didn’t work for me. I actually gave his UD diet a go and it’s plain ridiculous. I think there are better ways (i.e. CT’s Carb Cycling) to accomplish the same goals. You don’t need that insanity to achieve your desired physique.

Lyle started with reading Duchaine etc, he then got sick of all the crap available on the ketogenic diet, so he origonally was going to co-author the book but that fell through and he ended up writing The Ketogenic Diet by himself. A fucking boring, but excellent book.

if CTs carb cycling is so wonderful (excuse Twin Peaks earlier articles on the topic) why was he utilizing lyles UD2?
Your post really didn’t add much to the discussion. As CT discusses in his carb-cycling codex, this is the latest incarnation of his dietary strategies. Indeed, he said the UD worked - I never said it DIDN’T work, but I think it as a strategy lacks the efficacy of something like carb cycling.
I hate to take a page out of Berardi’s book, but no matter how beautiful the theory, occasionally you need to look at the results. I just don’t think the UD’s cost/benefit ratio is all that great. In fact I think it stinks. You go through a whole lot of suffering to get to a place where something like carb-cycling could get you to just as well.
While I think the premise is amazing, and I think it’s a great idea in theory (as in, WOW, this SO makes sense, this is THE magic bullet to fat loss), it just fails on the applicability side. Like another poster said, you simply can’t live like that. And even as a short term solution, just taking a look at DaFreak’s progress on these boards, I think you can achieve scary levels of leanness without doing depletion cycles and what have you.

It’s ok to dissagree at times but there are lines that should never be crossed. However it was fun at times though wasn’t it?(wink).

stupid mods. I tried replying to contac who just lists some names on the review for Rapid fat loss, but avoided the whole Berardi crying deal. I tried to reply that he was skating the issue. It didn’t get posted, I got this from the mod…

Is this some sort of Armageddon scenario where legions of trolls invade the T-Nation? Anyway, it’s time for a nap. Please wake me when the Seventh Seal breaks. If all that trumpet noise doesn’t wake me up in the first place, that is.
It’s a promotion exercise used at promoting one person. Based on the publicity principle, ‘any publicity is good publicity’. Either good or bad, his name is thrown around.
Like a ‘street team’ does when they promote a newly signed band. No one is frequenting their stale forum (because the band sucks) so they go around saying, ‘have you heard the latest tracks from this band, damn they’re good’. Or they just talk back and forth on other popular forums, as they see it’s their quest in life to force people to like what they like.
So their quest, as pathetic as it sounds, is to throw the name around. Even if a particular user is saying ‘quit following me around the internet, I’m not a supporter with (name)’, the NAME is still being thrown around to get people thinking.
It’s an active ploy to garner some support. In other words, T-Nation is under a ‘street team’ invasion.
Maybe the ‘other’ forum is hard up for topics. Maybe member numbers have started to drop off. Maybe they’re just plain bored. Either way, it’s lame.
If they haven’t already, I’d advise T-Nation mods to surf on over and see which users on the other forum are planning to cause trouble here. And if the other forum is as professional outfit as they claim to be, the moderators there would do the right thing and get rid of the trash.
