Bartl vs. Sayjin: A Fat Loss Challenge

I read something by John Berardi that I’d like to share with everybody:

"As I wrote to Dave recently, "you just have test yourself from time to time ?? especially as you get a bit older, collect a few more creature comforts, and watch everyone around you ‘takin’ er easy’ and getting weaker and softer in mind and body. Every once in a while you have to make it hard on purpose. Doesn’t matter if it’s in the gym or in the kitchen.

And while you’ve gotta be smart about things and stick to your goals, you’ve also gotta remind yourself that you’re a man. You’ve gotta remind yourself that when you make a promise, especially one to yourself, you’ve got to stick to it and not crumble like many do. You simply gotta get in there and get it done ?? without complaint and without compromise. You just knuckle down and do what it takes."

I wonder how many of the people I see every day, stumbling down the street, have ever pushed themselves really hard; have ever gone the distance; in anything in their lives. I know, for a fact, that some haven’t. And, to me, that’s not a life worth living. But that’s just my opinion."

I started my own log a few months ago and have only seen minimal results despite my efforts, so I figured its time to take a page out of Gus’s playbook and bring out the big baby to get the job done. I know what I have to do in order to be succesful, and I’m going to just do it with no complaints. I’m a big fan of periodizing my nutrition, as I’ve been eating everything in sight for the last 2 weeks, but now I’m ready to go all out in order to break into single digit territory.

8 weeks - no excuses. It’s time to get shredded folks.

Starting weight this morning - 195

Wake - 2 HRX, 2 Rhodiola Rosea

Meal 1 - 6 eggs, 6oz carrots, 5g fish oil, 1 serving Greens+

Drink #1 - 10g BCAA, 2.5g creatine

Drink #2 (During workout) - 10g BCAA, 2.5g creatine

Drink #3 (Post workout) - 10g BCAA, 2.5g creatine

Meal 2 - 6 eggs, 6oz carrots, 5g fish oil

2 HRX, 2 Rhodiola Rosea

Meal 3 - 4oz chicken breast (cooked), 1 cup broccoli, 1tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1tbsp natural peanut butter

Meal 4 - 4oz chicken breast, (cooked), 1 cup broccoli, 1tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1oz walnuts

Drink #4 (Pre Bed) - 10g BCAA, 2.5g creatine, 1 serving ZMA, 1 serving multi vitamin.

I’m going to look this meal plan over when I get home to make sure it meets my caloric requirements and if it does I’m going to stick with it for my entire adventure, while making the nessecary adjustments as I drop weight. I’m the kind of person that can eat the same thing every day, so this will be great for me.

Workout

A) Sumo Deadlift: 200lbs; 10x3; 45sec rest between sets

B) Chin ups: BW+35; 10x3; 45sec rest between sets

C) Leg Extensions: 115lbs, 5x5, 45sec rest between sets

D) Dips: BW+ 60lbs; 10x3; 45sec rest between sets

E) Bicycle Sprints: 60sec low/30sec high; 10min duration

Today was a good day for many reasons. To start my new weight is:

201.4 lbs

So I’m down about 7 pounds from my last fat weigh in.

Second, I had a rippin leg session today, which I describe later.

Third, I had a board meeting today that lasted 3.5 hours. Why is this a good thing considering I am no longer under the employ of corporate America?

Because my friends, the term “board” meeting now has new meaning. The new definition now means surfing. See, my original meeting started off legit enough, but when two friends get together, talk a little business and the topic of surfing comes up, well, business abruptly ends and we move our meeting to a place better suited for such intense discussions.

My leg session today:

A1) Deadlift, 10x3, 275 lbs, 90 sec rest

B1) Front Squat, 4x4-6, 155 lbs, 90 sec rest
B2) RDL, 4x4-6, 155 lbs, 90 sec rest

C1) Bulgarian Split Squat, 4x4-6, 35 lb kettle bell, 60 sec rest
C2) Zots Deadlift, 4x4-6, 60 sec rest

And I love my new diet and I’m not changing it

This round goes to you my friend. You goal is 185, eh? It looks like we both have about 15lbs to lose within the next 5 weeks…this should be fun.

Ummm how come I wasn’t invited? I wanna surf! I promise you that I will become a hot surfer chick… as soon as I move to a place that allows for surfing to occur.

How do you like this product so far? Is it giving you the strength of vikings?

Didn’t you go back to your PC diet 6 weeks out from your race? So technically, your “new” diet is actually your old diet.

Unless you changed it along the way and I missed something.

How was the surfing, errrr, I mean “board” meeting?

I can’t tell just yet, and I’m gonna be honest…I’m about to be on so many supplements that I doubt I’ll be able to tell if it helps or not. I’ll just believe that its helping me towards my goal and hope that it actually is lol.

Just dropped by to check on you fellas, seems like things are going well, carry on.

Technically yes. My new diet is my old diet, but since I just started it again, its now new, hence the term new diet.

The surfing was fun. First session was a beach break about 3-4 feet but really windy. Got some good waves there and even went left a couple times. Then we picked up and moved up the coast about 5 miles to Rincon where we lost size, maybe 2 foot sets, but we were protected in a cove so there was no wind and caught some fun little play around waves. My friend had a water casing on his digital camera and got some good shots of us. When I get it from him I will post.

Considering I now have my own road bike and don’t have to borrow one and plan on riding it, oh, EVERY DAY TO WORK (15 miles round trip), I would say things just got very much more interesting.

Well isn’t that a coincidence - I just got my bike back from the shop and I’m riding it back and forth to work as well! I must say, I am jealous of your surfing adventures, because I can’t swim at all, which is a pre-req for surfing I’d say.

me being giddy as a guy who just lost his virginity! (actually, just caught a wave all the way into the beach and stepped off my board onto the sand)

kind of a cool picture

Nice rashguard. Must have been a girl that said it would look good on.

And you trunked it! Yay for you. And you were out there for more than 20 minutes…impressive!

I’m tired and my grundle is super sore :frowning:

BUT, I had a great session today and hit the EDT 20% goal that Staley sets out for the program.

Chins - BW - 42
Dips - w/ 45 - 42

The original PR Zone was 29, so I kind of got a lot more reps.

EZ Bar Bicep Curl - w/ 85 - 48
DB Tri Extensions - w/ 35 - 48

That is my new PR Zone for those two as I actually found a weight where I couldn’t do sets of 5 the entire time. I was stoked.

Why is my grundle sore? Well on my ride to and from work, I didn’t wear my bike shorts, aka my spandex with the padding built in and my seat is a racing seat so its really small and really hard. So, since I haven’t been riding that much, my grundle is now sore

:frowning:

How’s the grundle feeling today? Any better? Ask Sayjin what I suggested for his sore feet yesterday and try that if it’s still sore…

In case anyone is wondering, she recommended that I watch internet porn.
