Barry Bonds and Steroid Use

And what sort of point would “crucifying” Bonds make… That players should be retroactively punished for steroid use, even if it wasn’t outlawed at the time? That the commissioner is willing to unfairly make an example of some players rather than treat all players in a uniformly just manner?

As someone else posted the other day, former commissioner Vincent and ownership were at least marginally aware of the problem 15 years ago. Ownership was absolutely aware of the problem 7 years ago. They chose not to do anything about it until last year, when the congressional dog-and-pony show forced the union and MLB to agree to a significant steroid policy. If MLB didn’t want its players (and the game’s records) questioned because of steroid use, it had MORE than enough time to address the situation.

Throwing Barry Bonds under the bus now is purely scapegoating. Yeah, the guy is an ass and yeah, his accomplishments can’t be viewed in the same light as the stars of his father’s generation. However… he didn’t cheat because there were no rules against steroids and he is no more to blame than the juiced opponents he played against, the owners who turned a blind eye in favor of ticket sales or the fans and sportswriters who discounted the obvious for the better part of a decade because watching 500 foot homers leave the stadium was a hell of a lot of fun.

Its good to see that people here are in agreement and we all understand the obvious.

Does Barry deserve this witchhunt? Thats debatable, but to me its totally justified because he lied. I could care less about his drug use or baseballs integrity or anything else the popular media will latch on to. What I find reprehensible is his lying and his attitude. Be a man, admit what you did and move on.

Its ridiculous that people are so afraid of the truth - either hearing it or telling it.

I agree. The owners and Selig are as much at fault, actually, probably more at fault, then any of the players.

It is just extremely frustrating to see baseball going downhill like this.

Bonds wouldn’t even be that much of a big deal 1) if he wasn’t an arrogant pric and 2) if he was not about to break the homerun record.

On a related note, it infuriates me that he only wants to break Ruth’s record because Ruth was white. What a dick.

Do most people look at someone who shaves their head, compare it to 20 year old photos of the same person much skinnier with hair and a baseball cap and assume their head changed much?

Shit I have a hat that doesnt fit from 2 years ago let alone 10.[/quote]

Listening to the Jim Rome show. The author of another Barry Bonds book is being interviewed.

To paraphrase him, there are only 2 ways an adult human’s head can get bigger.

  1. a disease (Andre the Giant had it, don’t remember the name of the disease)

or

  1. human growth hormone.

Prof, you’re in the medical field. Is what that author said fact?

And if so, everyone who posted in this thread stating their domes have gotten bigger during adulthood had better get a check-up.

Analysis of said larger head.

Is the bone structure of Bonds head indeed larger or is it simply there is more flesh.

Alot of us age and gain weight including our face, neck and head. Skin gets thicker, etc.

I don’t thinkt he weight gain bonds exhibited is outside of the realm of a capability of a professional athelete who has never worked with weights putting a solid year in with proper nutrition and supplementation.

I posted pictures of his head. He had hair before. He doesn’t have hair now. He now lifts weights when he didn’t when he was younger. Anyone who has watched bodybuilders progress know that the muscles in your face grow with the rest of you to a degree. In other words, there is no one who now weighs 270lbs who still has the exact same facial structure they had when they were 150lbs. Bonds does not appear to have any disease process going on.
