Bands I Hate

Lol, music snobs are the easiest to aggravate. Say you don’t like a band and they act like you ran over their dog.
To say you don’t like their sound is one thing, but to say you hate them implies much more than that.

You still haven’t really explained why you feel this way.

This. Now, I like the White Stripes’ songs, but I certainly don’t loft Jack White into ‘genius’ or even ‘relevant’ category.

For the life of me, I don’t know why he was chosen for the “It Might Get Loud” documentary with the likes of Jimmy Page and “The Edge”, who, by the way was actually novel, and a bit of a pioneer with his approach to electric guitar, love him or hate him.

Soundgarden? Silverchair?

Obvious troll is obvious.

Name some bands you do like.
So answering the post honestly is trolling? Interesting theory. Keep working on that.

I do like Classical, Jazz, most Blues, Funk, classic Soul, and most electronic styles of music.
And I have a real love of Avante Guarde, Experimental like music. Most of my favorite artists are classed as “Experimental” within some category.

However since you fuck wits don’t seem to want to talk about anything but Rock I like a lot of Punk and Alternative. Mostly from the 80’s. I like Elvis, The Doors, The Beatles, Orbison.
Oh I can talk jazz with you. Avant garde jazz too. But you’ve put your goddamned pathetic lack of taste in music on full display for everyone here and I strongly question your taste in this area as well.

I’d be willing to bet you own absolutely zero John Coltrane post-A Love Supreme. Have you ever heard Coltrane’s “Sunship”? “Interstellar Space”? “Meditations”? Have you ever even heard Miles’ “On the Corner”? “Live at the Cellar Door: 1970”? Anything at all by Tony Williams’ “Lifetime”? What about Ornette Coleman? Do you even know who he is? Matthew Shipp? Pat Methany?

And you like 80’s punk eh? I’d bet the fucking house you think the Dead Kennedy’s are a bunch of fucking sell-out fascists! That is if you’ve ever heard anything by them other than “Holiday in Cambodia”.

And you like “some” David Bowie and NIN. There are about 10-20 fucking bands/musicians that are absolutely untouchable in my humble yet clearly more informed than your opinion:
David Bowie, NIN, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Wu-Tang Clan (early shit and all their early solo stuff), The White Stripes, RATM, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Jonh Coltrane, Miles Davis, Nas, The Red Hot Chili Peppers (especially Blood…Magik, the perfect album) and maybe Pink Floyd.

Only the bastard offspring of Benito Mussolini and Lee Harvey Oswald would put any of those bands on their hate list.
Your dreaming if you think that I would bother to quibble with you about who knows more about music. Maybe you do know more than me. Is that supposed to mean something to me? Please.

That being said,

Of course I have heard Coltrane and Davis. I love that stuff and everything you mentioned by them. “Meditations” is my favorite Coltrane album. Miles Davis is a god. I have always disagreed the saying “Jazz is a player’s art”. There are quite a large number of listeners who love it and understand it, but don’t play. Most of the Jazz that I know is from listening to the MTSU college radio station. I don’t have a lot of Jazz CD’s though, and so I can’t claim that my knowledge is very in depth. I know enough to know it’s great.

I do in fact love the Dead Kennedys. They rock. favorite song: Police Truck. I also love Pink Floyd, James Brown, and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Mother’s Milk FTW. The White Stripes aren’t bad, but I don’t think I would spend money on it.

It’s kind of wierd how upset you ass clowns get just because someone’s tastes are a little different. Do you have hissy fits and temper tantrums about other trivial things or is it just music?
I suppose the overly-sensationalist, slightly facetious nature of my diatribes against you was lost on you somewhere. Have you not ever seen me post anything here before? I don’t give a fuck what you do or don’t like in all honesty. What’s funny is that when I said I hoped you got raped by a seven foot Catholic priest with syphillis you actually thought I was really getting that upset. Shit, I guess my sense of humor isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

And by the way, what the fuck is with your earlier comment that the picture of the dude from Danzig that’s your former avatar was your inspiration to lift weights? That’s like saying the first time you saw Cathy Bates naked was the first time you knew you really wanted to bang chicks.

if you listen to more than TWS they used to play on the radio, you would know he is more than a screamer. follow his work with the Raconteurs and The Dead Weather and hear he is way more than a one trick pony.

There’s some really good DVD’s out there with White Stripes concerts in their entirety. While I certainly won’t argue that Meg White is a great drummer, what she plays works very well, given that Jack White is the driving force behind all of their songs. You don’t have to be the second coming of Elvin Jones or John Bonham to sound good within the framework of a band. But check out those live DVD’s and then tell me that Jack White isn’t a fucking incredible guitar player. Until you’ve seen him play live, please don’t shove this shit about The Edge being a better player than him onto us.

At least The Edge’s approach brought something original to the forefront (and had been somewhat imitated throughout the 80’s). He’ll be duly noted in the rock history books for that. Jack White, on the other hand is ONLY an imitator… never mind that he plays it well. Nothing inventive there.

Edge contribution to music >>>> Jack White

I’m very familiar with JW’s catalog. It doesn’t rise to the level of “Edge” (at least Edge’s earlier contributions-- I won’t argue that he’s been irrelevant for at least a decade). JW’s fits squarely into the top of the bell curve of guitar players, certainly not a 2nd or 3rd standard deviation.

Meg White is dire. What annoys me about her, aside from her complete lack of technical ability, is the fact that people point to her as an example of female drumming. What about Karen Carpenter?

Scouting for Girls are a band that deserve to burn, and I hope all my fellow UK posters will join me in that sentiment.

Pic Related: No band has better concert posters.

Agreed. I collect their posters, have one from every show I’ve been to except Denver '98. I also get cool ones from more recent tours even if I don’t go to that show.

Emek doesn’t do a lot of their posters - it’s mostly Ames Bros - but the stuff he does is amazing.

x2

I had a large number of WS tracks in my iTunes library several years ago. But I noticed that everytime I listened to them, I kept saying to myself, "This reminds me of so-and-so (classic rock or blues great). I’d then crave hearing so-and-so, and went to their song instead!

Ultimately I cleared my library of all WS tunes and haven’t listened to them since.
LOL

For female drummers how about Moe Tucker from the Velvet Underground, the chick from the Donnas, Gina Shock from the Go Go’s, Dee Plakas from L7, Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill or Teresa Taylor from the Butthole Surfers?

Sure, I could’ve gone with someone like Cindy Blackman too, it was just an example.

You could have gone with ANY female drummer, but you went with Karen Carpenter. What a shame. Just kidding. Actually, forgetting for a second that The Carpenters fucking blow, she was a pretty decent drummer.

Point taken. My bad.

I couldn’t tell if you were pissed or not, because as you said I haven’t read much of your stuff. It’s hard to tell on teh interwebz sometimes.
BTW I definitely did LOL @ the 7 ft priest thing. And the “aborted love child of Oswald and Mousselini” thing. Instant classic.

In high school I had a buddy that was into metal and we constantly debated back and forth about which was better, Punk or Metal. (metal is better but I still like punk and hardcore more)
I was into the Misfits and Samhain, but I hadn’t even heard Danzig at all at the time.
So anyway dude had a poster that was that pic and I decided I liked the look so I grew my hair out and started lifting. All there is to it.

Anyway He’s not all that big is he? Never was. I was a kid. I didn’t know shit. My BBing heroes now are Reg Park, Branch Warren and Ronie Coleman.

Jason Mraz.

There’s not that many bands or artists that I can say that I genuinely hate, but he’s one of them.

This Mr. Frost vs. DB Cooper debacle is a perfect example of why both the class of 2009 and 2010 suck ass.

‘‘Fuck you you fucking cock sucking mother fucking fuck fucker! How dare you fucking not like a fucking band that I fucking like you cum guzzling fuckface. I’m fucking well read you fucking asshole and I know more about real fucking music than you could ever fucking dream.’’
