Bananas and Bowels

For someone prone to constipation: would eating a banana a day make the constipation worse; make it better; or not affect that particular issue?

I had always heard that bananas would make constipation worse, but recently I read a claim that eating bananas might help relieve constipation.

Does anyone have any experience with this, or know anyone who has experience with this?

Thank you for any tips or information.

It’s fairly personal, I’ve always been told bananas constipate but for me when I eat two bananas I have to run to the bathroom. I’m afraid you’re going to have to find out yourself.

i’ve had to shit more times than not after a large banana. I’ve never thought, wow i’m constipated now after eating that banana.

I think eating a banana a day for you will not make a difference, it’s just one banana. If anything, more bananas should help as you’ll get more fiber.

For me I can’t tell the difference whether I eat one banana or 12.

if i have the shits, a banana helps me slow the flow. if i’m constipated, a banana usually gives my turds a gentle push out the door. they keep me more “regular” than yogurt does.

I currently have diarrhea and my doctors tell me to eat bananas (among other things).

That is likely due to the potassium and not because of some “constipation ability”.

your really worried about eating ONE banana a day?? to the point where you needed to start a discussion on it? WOW.

I eat 4 a day…never been constipated.
