Kinda close but not quite there. I would have needed to be 10 pounds lighter for today’s lift to be 2x BW. Or I would have needed more plates and to have successfully pulled ~250.
If I wanted to care about “standards” like what @dagill2 is doing in his log right now, Dan John notices dramatic changes in his female athletes’ performances when they pull 275. So, that’s his “game-changer” for the hinge.
I think it is somewhat true that it is spreading into other cultures in a lot of ways, but consumerism in America is something else entirely. You have to be there to understand it. Easy access to all kinds of luxuries, and Americans will put themselves into serious financial jeopardy to obtain all of it.
As someone who’s lived in both, I’ll have to take your word for it. It seems, from your descriptions, to be similar to what I see over here but I’ve not lived in both.
I have visited the UK a bunch of times, know lots of people from there…and I would say you guys come closer to American style consumerism than the rest of Europe. But still not quite the same. Unless over the last few years everyone in the UK now lives in McMansions and owns both a sports car and an enormous SUV/Truck. Which they cram into their three-car garages where their snowmobiles and motorcycles are kept.
And yes, I am slightly jealous that I currently cannot access these things.
I guess rabid consumerism is in the eye of the beholder. It feels like we’re pretty far gone over here but that’s from a grumpy OAP in a 34 year old body. I’m probably not grading on the same curve that American natives are.
The issues are similar, as a high standard of living is prerequisite – but not the only culprit. Then important to note that the “stuff” is not just material goods but also information. America is essentially one big shopping mall for everything. There are also unspoken nuances in the way young people are raised. I don’t think I’ve explained myself very well, but I’m happy to take the conversation off this log if anyone wants. It’s a topic I find very interesting. To think my simple desire to finally go to Germany turned down this road lol
I don’t have the time, or firm opinions, to weigh in; but let me say that I thoroughly enjoy the discussion here and am lurking joyfully. I wish I had people IRL to discuss this with more.
This morning
150 cal assault bike 19:10
50 band pull aparts
Looking the exact same (as always) before and after the T-ransformation Challenge. Not surprising since I didn’t focus on hypertrophy, and my weight didn’t change very much. I definitely want to shift gears soon though and not look the same year after year anymore.
Maybe speaking too soon since I still have one week left, but Coffinworm went better than expected even if the PRs were modest. 115 bench and 225 deadlift for reps are cool. Plus < 6:50 mile, which is not a PR but something I haven’t done for years, and I definitely had zero strength back then. I’m looking forward to changing things up soon.
I’ll start Easy Strength next week and do that until vacation, then after that do something much higher volume while eating a lot of food. Not sure yet, probably BBB, but I have time to figure it out.
Thanks! Haha, I’m 160cm tall weighing 56 kg. I don’t think I give that impression to my peers.
Goblet squat 24kg 2x15
50 dips
50 band pull aparts
I combined two days because I felt like it. The SSB squat 5+ set absolutely sucked. I felt blood rush to my head more than ever before. I’ll probably combine the last two days because these sessions are so quick. My BW has been static this past week, but I’m being patient.
This morning I did 5 hill sprints + 1.6 km run. My legs are pretty sore from yesterday. Finally eating my first meal of the day now. ~18k steps today.
Also had a funny dream last night that non-lifters cannot appreciate. I was training with a group of people, and Dan John was coaching. I pressed 85 pounds, and then we did overhead loaded carries… while walking backwards. Except on the carries the weight was too heavy for me, and everyone else was doing fine. I was trying to remove some weight, but the collars on the barbell were stuck. I was humiliated the rest of the session.
Terrible in a “same shit, different day” way. Maybe “year” is better than “day.” I haven’t hit a press PR in over a year, unfortunately. And even then it’s been pretty stagnant for years.
