Bagsy's Training Log

You have your own present and future health complications that are far more detrimental than what he described.

@garagerocker13, forgive me for belitting your pain.

Plenty, but I think they made it worse. I need to allow as little movement as possible in my pelvis. I’m already at a disadvantage because my spine is destabilized by a birth defect. One issue or the other in isolation wouldn’t be too bad, but having both together is walking a tightrope juggling knives…on fire.

@anna_5588 bagsy hit the nail on the head. You gotta make some positive changes to make sure you get old enough to worry about stuff like this.

Shows you how little I know on this topic. Getting other professional opinions may not be a terrible idea. Hopefully you stay pain-free for awhile!

I’ve done better in the last year than ever - haven’t had to miss a lift for pain and everyday discomfort is still decreasing. Glad your shift never caused too much of an issue!

Oh no a novel

Moving on with Coffinworm. The setup is so similar to the previous program I was running that the only important difference is the rep scheme on the heavy lift of the day. That difference might be enough to help me build more strength. I think if I want to see more dramatic changes with pressing, Easy Strength might be the way to go. I’ve been reading and listening to so much Dan John lately that it feels criminal to not try one of his programs. I think I’ll have to save that for later though.

I think my main mistake in the past has been being too conservative with 5/3/1. Some people would say that’s impossible. If my top set on 1s week didn’t fly, or if I got 4 reps instead of 5+, I was made sure to not boost my TM. I was afraid of future failure, yet with this attitude I was already on this path because – even worse – I then usually dialed back my TM. Maybe I took Jim too literally all those years. So, I am going to be less conservative this time around. I also have a good sense from Reload which percentages work well for me on the secondary lift, so I’ll stick with those. They’re a bit heavier than what Jim recommends. Sue me.

Deload session 1 today. I always feel like this is such a waste because I probably spend almost the same amount of time setting and cleaning as I do lifting. But I definitely needed to do a TM test at least for the SSB this week, since I will use that moving forward.

Worked up to 65 pounds on press for a double but definitely knew I could have done a third. More interesting was the SSB, because I had no idea where I would end up for a TM. I was surprised to squat 142# for a heavy but solid triple.

Also did 3x6 pull ups, 2x10 pushups, 75 band pull aparts, and 100 cal assault bike in 11:58.

I’ll test my bench and deadlift TMs tomorrow or Thursday and start the program on Saturday.

Hell yeah on the decision to do Coffinworm! And for being more willing to push yourself. Are you going with a 90% TM for it?

Those are some very serious lifting numbers!

Whatever I can do for a triple that is not too terribly grindy. I think Jim says that’s around 90% for most people, but that seems more like 5-6 reps for me.

From what I understand, females tend to be better at doing reps

That’s super gutsy there. I picked a solid 5RM and still got my ass kicked. Never got buried, but another few pounds woulda been an issue. But if you handle reps at a high % really well then you’re probably good to go.

Didn’t feel too terrible despite sleeping awfully. The weather is stunning today.

Your sleep seems to have been bad as of late, life treating you okay?

Honestly, not really. But I’m chugging along, and at least training isn’t going terribly.

Sorry to hear, if you need to reach out to a stranger my email is in my bio

No worries. Ah yes I said I would email you a few weeks ago :upside_down_face: I didn’t forget, will do that soon!

Damn!

Set 2 PRs today during TM testing… pulled 220x3 and benched 105x3.

I’ll stick with 100 for my bench TM because the last rep was slow and cheaty. Plus adding 2.5 pounds after each cycle is a lot, even for bench.

Also did 2x6 pullups, 2x10 pushups, and 50 band pull aparts

Nice job!

Congrats on the PRs! I think 100 is a smart move on bench. Very jealous that your deadlift near max just looks like a not-super-fast deadlift. Very little deviation in form.

I bet my form would have deviated a bit if I added 10 pounds, hahaha. But I also think I’m not very good at truly maxing out since I don’t do it often
