Yeah broad jumps seem fine. What I did before was add a vertical component in the middle like this
Nice idea. My broad jumps would probably look like slow motion compared to yours
Well to be fair, I’ve been playing volleyball for more than 15 years now, so there’s lots of jumping involved. You play soccer, correct?
I played soccer for 10 years. Don’t really play much anymore. I wish I had lifted back then.
Same.
Why not play again? Once the pandemic dies down, of course.
I’m not as into 11-a-side. I prefer futsal and small-sided games because I’m a more skillful player, though I think I would probably be better on the field now with the lifting. And honestly, it was a high pressure environment for me when I was younger. Taking lifting seriously is a breath of fresh air, to step away from team sports. In some ways it suits my introverted personality better. And I think if I did want to take soccer seriously again, getting stronger and faster would up my game more than anything else.
Yup. It definitely will. Just train smart as to not injure yourself and get the most amount of gains with the least amount of work (training economy) and you’ll be golden

Surprising PR today considering I’ve been busy all day and haven’t really eaten anything yet… oops. Fueled by Glass Animals’s new album? But I guess now the next benchmark will be under 11:30.

Funnily enough, nothing felt good today besides the squats. I knew on the first set of dips that this would suck. I still feel fatigued from last week’s dips. I also felt rushed since someone kept me on a phone call for over 3 hours, and I still have to go to work for a bit…
Yesterday was one of the worst days ever… I woke up in the middle of the night (okay, 5 AM) and felt awful. Was terrified I had COVID. Couldn’t go back to sleep until an hour later, then slept again until 10 with one wake-up in between those. So unlike me to sleep in that late. Still felt like crap, so much so that I skipped conditioning and barely did any work. Figured going outside for some fresh air might help (110 heat index, silly me). I’m ~2.5 miles away from my apartment, and this HUGE storm rolls in. I didn’t know what to do. I’m used to severe thunderstorms, but the winds were crazy. Sirens went off, and I was certain a tornado was about to sweep me away. I took shelter under a pavilion ~0.5 mile away and still got soaked taking shelter for over an hour. Though there were others there, I was essentially alone with no one to call. Eventually some of it blew over, so my conditioning ended up being a fartlek run back to my apartment. To top it off, I think my earbuds are partially damaged as a result of the rain.
Some aftermath:
Anyway, I felt better today.

Someone suggested I try deadlifting without shoes, and I think it really made a difference today. I don’t think 180 has ever felt this submax before!
Also doubled up today to make up for missing yesterday’s conditioning. Did 8 rounds of Tabata on the assault bike.
100 cal assault bike, recovery pace.
My bike is a lot louder than usual lately. I think I need to lubricate the chain. Does anyone have any product recommendations?
Don’t know specifically about exercise bikes, but WD-40 works on pretty much everything.
Not a DIY expert or anything, but with my limited experience, WD40 will be a temporary fix if you need to lubricate something. It will work, but if you don’t want to keep doing it, you’re going to have to use something that’s thicker in consistency. Not sure what the correct term for those would be. Some sort of grease is what I’m trying to refer to
Ah yes you may have a point. Some mechanical grease of some sort perhaps.
Good Effort on the pullups!!
Not on this site as often as i used to be , as i switched my 5/3/1 training log to instagram (tj_sc_531 if intrested in following) rather than on here
Love wendlers approach to training in general, and his 5/3/1 programming really brings the ‘fun’ back into lifting while also making great gains!
Look forward to seeing your progress, and i used WD40 on my assault bike with no issues

Good day. My performance on weighted pullups improved slightly. I misloaded the first working set of squats, but fortunately I caught the mistake before the widowmaker set where it matters most. I’m a little (VERY) afraid for W3D1.
@tinkertailortanker @whang Thanks for the input. I see conflicting recommendations… some people think a “special” lubricant is needed, whereas others think any regular lubricant is fine.
@tj55 Thanks for the words. I rarely stray from 5/3/1, but whenever I do, I always find myself coming back to it. Followed you back on Instagram.
I actually didn’t really disagree with the WD40. I was just pointing out that you may have to reapply it more often compared to a grease. It’s perfectly fine if you try the WD40 out ![]()
