yep!
I live on campus, but some of my friends have resorted to dumping table salt on their door setps
I can imagine. I visited Pittsburgh once in my life and was not the biggest fan. Sounds like a similar situation where I am. Whereas the amount of snow we got here would maybe earn my hometown a snow day, if for some reason the superintendent felt generous. Kids here have it so easy, and the snow pisses me off.
Thanks, haha, though I sometimes feel like sticking a “handle with care” on my forehead.
The stuff we get is no real big deal. The Rockys and cities to the north that get the lake effect stuff and nor’easters really get pummeled.
I was in Texas and a couple other southern states like too many years ago when they got some sprinkles. Wow! It was a disaster with people flying off the roads and going insane over an inch or less.
I have lived in several Midwestern states, so I can relate but realize that places like upstate New York probably get hammered harder.
Haha, I’ve never been to Texas but almost moved there a couple years ago. I am thankful every day that that did not happen. A few weeks ago a seminar speaker from DC area told us that his kids had a snow day. Then he showed us what his yard looked like… there was not even one snowflake!
An old buddy of mine just moved up there this year near the Adirondacks. Some of the biking & hiking he has done is stunning! Especially the winter hikes.
Now don’t entice me to move there and become a hermit lol
Happy to read your surgery went well and that you are recovering quickly. Hope you are cleared to lift again soon.
Lol yep. Yesterday, for instance.
It’s a function of rarity, though. Any day with weather more than 2 or 3 stdevs from the mean deserves special treatment, and that varies by region.
Thanks, I’m counting down the days until the 15th!
Yeah, it was extremely rare. That was like 26 years ago, and probably just as long since the time before that.

I’m so happy I could do pullups, though they felt weird. Super bro-ish workout otherwise, which was honestly probably good for me. Not the same as pulling a heavy deadlift, but it was enough to make me feel like I did something, which is what matters more right now. It was kind of fun, rotating the movements without stopping and goofing off to Glass Animals.
I try to not digest lifting content when I can’t lift for an extended time, but listening to a Dan John podcast made the bike ride tolerable. So, now lifting-related thoughts are simmering in my mind again.
Every time I do front raises I feel like I should do them more. I don’t feel like I am at the point where I have specific “weakpoints,” but I do believe my shoulder strength lags behind on upper body barbell movements. I think push presses have helped because they actually make my shoulders feel like they do something, unlike strict presses, and I doubt more front raises could hurt.
The Internet often insists that front raises are unnecessary because compound movements cover the front delts “enough.” Sure, I don’t think front raises are going to magically fix things. But I thought about this today as I did them and recalled how I followed similar advice propagated online that did not work for me: posterior chain accessories are key to a stronger squat and deadlift because everyone’s posterior chain is weak. Years ago I did tons of deadlift variations, glute ham raises, and hyperextensions because I thought I fell into that category.
And who knows, maybe I am a good deadlifter as a result of those things. I don’t think that’s the case though. Instead, I spent years neglecting quads – sure, I never skipped single leg work, but I squatted so “wrong” for such a long time that front squats seemingly did nothing for my leg strength, and it took me most of last year to feel like squats click a little better for me. For most of last year I did zero deadlift variariations or extensions and only some swings here and there, and I think I even made better progress that way. Of course, deadlifts are the least of my worries.
Then I thought about Deep Water having only one lower body day. The Internet believes that I should be able to tolerate higher frequency because I’m a woman and that I might be leaving progress on the table if I hit a muscle group only once per week. I can’t deny that I still had some reservations about that before starting the program. I think the program worked quite well for me on squats and deadlifts, even better than BBB. Granted, I added an extra front squat workout on some weeks, yet I don’t think that was key. Maybe it was simply because DW was so different. Still felt like a game-changer for me mentally.
I guess I needed to scratch a writing itch lol
This was definitely more free-flowing than your normal writing!
I add in front and/or side raises to pretty much every one of my shoulder workouts, I don’t think it makes a huge difference in pressing strength but may help aesthetics, a bit. In any case, I’m usually not putting a whole lot of thought into them and just do them to feel the muscle working. Unlike deadlift variations you probably aren’t going to tax your recovery to any meaningful degree by adding them, not a lot to lose by adding them, may get a quarter step further away from perceived DYEL territory by adding them.
I definitely accumulate a lot of lateral raises, and I have no idea if they’ve helped me or not. I still sometimes toss front raises into the Totally Unnecessary category, which is silly at least for someone like me, so I’ll have to see. I guess that whole thing was about finding that seemingly necessary things are unnecessary for me at this time, while the seemingly unnecessary may actually be good if I give them a chance.
Yep, experiential learning is what it’s all about. Sometimes hard to discern causation with so many factors at play but I don’t know a better way than to try. Worst case scenario is they don’t do anything for you and you’ve eliminated a variable. Best case is you get all swole, strong, and find an exercise you like lol

Testing the waters more and more. In everyday life I often forget that I even had surgery.
A different story when it comes to lifting, which I’m still not supposed to do. AM session went okay, was kinda weird actively trying to not brace, which made things harder. Pullups felt better than last time, like I was tugging on myself less, if that makes sense. The belt squat is a nice option. I felt an odd and brief sensation on one side afterwards but seems okay otherwise. The time has really flown by; my appointment is already next week. I have a feeling that I won’t be able to jump right back into Deep Water, unfortunately.
No discomfort during the run that I can attribute to the incisions… more because running after not running for a bit kinda sucks. I am still glad I did it; work has been so frustrating for me lately, and this helped a tiny bit to burn off some energy in a way that walking can’t.
I feel like I’m a different person when I’m not pushing myself physically, especially in the weightroom. Not necessarily in a bad way. I only hope I can squat and deadlift again soon. Now I’m a little sore from all the activity today.

I listened to the Hippo Campus and FKA Twigs albums and liked both more than expected! I just listened to the new Animal Collective album… I still don’t care about them.
Haha, if only! I recently told a couple friends that I lift, and one of them seemed kind of surprised ![]()
Nice! I think they’re awesome albums. LP3 required a few listens to grow on me, but now I love it. It sounds so much more mature than their previous works. Still adoring that new Bad Suns album though. I’ve actually never listened to Animal Collective, probably won’t change that anytime soon.
I’ve never listened to them until now, but I like Pinegrove’s new album. A lot. I have very mixed feelings about that enjoyment though.
