Bagsy's Training Log

The number of artists I see written off there because they don’t fit “indie.” It’s funny.

Not to mention all of the Jack Antonoff drama that comes with them. It cracked me up to read complaints about Lorde’s new album and people effectively gatekeeping her from making “happier” music.

Oh, I really like Claud! I simply didn’t know their music constituted bubblegrunge.

Ah, got it. I’ve heard of them but never listened.

I can also recommend some German groups if you are interested in more foreign language content lol

Okay, so I’m completely wrong about bubblegrunge according to this list. Bubblegrunge artists and listeners — Spotify Top

I like a lot of artists on it but have no idea how Waxahatchee, pinkshift and girl in red are part of the same genre. :shrugs:

Send some German recommendations too, I listened to a few of the Russian artists but was distracted, I enjoyed the general style though, I’ll keep listening for a bit. Is your Russian good enough to understand the lyrics?

This is weird because I also adore a lot of the artists on this list, but bubblegrunge was not one of my top genres.

I love Provinz. Die Sterne, Fullax, and Von Wegen Lisbeth are also good.

I can understand fragments of most songs, but my Russian is still not great. Because no one asked… I planned to achieve B1 level this year, but I’m not there yet. Working hard on it though.

Lower body DOMS finally 100% gone. Now time to do it all over again soon…

Deadlift 170x6x10, 175x4x10 4 min rest
SSB squat 90x3x10 ss 10x2x10 walking lunges, then one final set of lunges with the SSB
3x60s plank + 20 situps, no rest

Nowhere near as bad as 10x10 squats. I honestly thought 170 would be too much, considering it was too heavy for me when I did BBB a few months ago. The bar speed on the fifth set was great

to the point where I thought I wasn’t dreading the next set enough. I’m still surprised that I cranked these out like they were nothing.

So, after set six I increased the weight to 175. Those extra five pounds made enough difference

I think I should have pushed it a little harder on the squats and lunges, but that huge deadlift volume PR is awesome. I felt really strong. I’ll have my work cut out for me in the next few weeks.

It’s worth considering you SHOULDN’T be dreading the next set on the first 2 weeks of the program. You need the wiggle room to be able to cut these rest periods in half in a month. The first 2 weeks will be tough but very survivable. Next 4 will be something else, haha.

Great effort!

Huge props to you for doing the deadlifts without straps. My grip would be toast.

I think you did the right thing. The lower body days won’t be this “easy” from here on out and starting week 3 already dug into a hole would make it that much harder. You’re killing it!

Thanks for the words! I’ll admit I may be at risk of getting too far ahead of myself, but I also don’t want to end up dogging it. Still, I’m already very nervous for W3D1.

I have a pair of straps somewhere but have not once used them. :woman_shrugging: I use a women’s barbell, so I think that helps a lot.

Another strong soul that has joined the Deep Water Cult. I shall follow this log Bagsy. Keep up the great work.

Thanks! Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed either. I also like your log because it makes me feel nostalgic about my college’s weightroom and all the weird programs I would do there, lol

Overall felt kinda bloated and sluggish today, but that’s probably because I stressed myself out between yesterday afternoon and this morning for a medical appointment. I wouldn’t be surprised if my whole body was more fatigued today after all those deadlifts compared to after last week’s lower body day, even though the DOMS is less than half as bad.

I wouldn’t share this if it had no impact on my training, but I need to write this because I realize I have more anxiety about it than I thought:

Re: yesterday’s appointment, where I confirmed I’m very likely having surgery at the end of next month. It loomed in the back of my mind since November or so, and that’s why I chose to train very hard until then. I won’t be able to do any resistance training for at least 2-3 weeks afterwards. Worst case scenario – who knows if I’ll be able to lift heavy for a bit even after I’m given the green light.

I’m not asking for medical advice, and I know several weeks are only a blip on the radar. Not lifting for the first two weeks will probably be good for me because I haven’t deloaded in a super long time. I think I’m also a little less nervous about it all, as the pandemic’s onset showed me I can go 4-5 weeks without touching a barbell and not lose much if anything (though I did tons of pushups and pullups at that time).

Need to focus on giving it my all for the remaining time. I’m young, healthy, and stronger than the average woman my age, so if anything I should heal faster than average.

That’s relatable. I’ve hit a few bumps in the road too. The prospect of losing what you’ve worked so hard for can be disheartening, but staying in the moment and resilience will win.

Good luck for the surgery! Is it anything (structural) that might impact your lifting for longer?

Any surgery can be stressful.
Take the time it need to heal.

You’re right. But it’s so much easier to tell that to someone else than it is to embrace it yourself!

I don’t know, and that’s what scares me. If I lift too heavy too soon, I risk a hernia. My core might be really weak when I get back to lifting.

Yeah, I don’t want to risk being out for longer. My only previous surgeries were tonsil removal and wisdom teeth. The latter was a couple summers ago, and I healed pretty quickly, and I don’t remember that affecting my lifts. I don’t need my teeth to lift weights though

I had an appendectomy in April 2020. Definitely a hernia risk. Ramp up slowly after surgery!

Sorry to hear!! You’ve really been killing it

2-3 weeks is nothing.

I could not lift properly for 6 months after kidney surgery. Strength came back very quickly.
