Right, sure it is.

I agree with this 100%
Too easy to just read logs and thoughts of people I agree with to prove myself right.
At the very least I’m glad I can spark some thoughts about it. I am not a staunch feminist – not that my answer is no if someone asks me – but rather consider myself an anti-traditionalist. I do cringe when men otherize women.
Training-wise, I find myself wanting to do something different for a bit, so I chose Dan John’s transformation program. Also trying out the Russian fighter pullup program because I haven’t programmed bodyweight work before and want to see if I can improve there. I’ll throw in some pushups and dips. The lower body volume is low, but Dan recommends running hills for extra work. Plus I’m trying to peak my performance on the 400m run.
I’m always nervous when I don’t deadlift for weeks, but then I remember that it’s the least of my worries. Even if this ends up being suBoPtImAl, it’s not for that long. These workouts are quick, which is good because I’m currently focusing a lot on work and my other hobbies.
10/27
AM:
Pullups 7,6,5,4,3
1x Power Clean and 8x Press: 50x3x8 1:00 rest
Power Curl: 60x3x8 1:00 rest
SA KB Press 12kgx8,7,6
3x20 band pull aparts
PM:
6 hill sprints
1 mile cooldown 8:00
I never did power curls before, so those were interesting. The DOMS kicked in early afterwards. Increasing the load on the two main lifts next week.
Wtf… I can barely curl the barbell ![]()
Those actually sound good
plus they won’t give me bicep DOMS
10/28
Pullups 7,6,5,4,4
50 pushups
Some band pull aparts
At the track…
Some jumps
2x450m (1:35,1:40) Should have rested more in between these but didn’t have time
1x200m
2x150m strides
10/29
Pullups 7,6,5,5,4
Front squat 85x3x8 1:00 rest
Overhead squat 45x3x8 1:00 rest
2x6 standing ab wheel progression
I was really short on time this morning. I had not done an overhead squat in probably 5 years or so now, so those were interesting. No issue completing any of the reps. 1:00 rest is easy, honestly. I have more thoughts on this to write later.
Good strong work.
So I strayed from the program by forgoing the power clean before the front squats. I tried to power clean 85 pounds and it felt… heavy? Which is weird because previously when I practiced any type of power clean from time to time, I think I managed 100 pounds or so without much difficulty. Today’s struggle might be because I was in a rush and because I don’t have bumper plates, which makes me err toward a hang power clean.
I have been thinking about getting more plates, and another pair of bumpers has been on my mind. Regardless, I think this morning revealed a deficit in my abilities. My back is my strongest asset – I can deadlift a decent number, and I am very good at pullups and rows. However, in real life the most “functional” thing is to pick something up to where I can potentially carry it.
So, I want to remedy this. Loaded carries are calling my name, aside from doing more power cleans in my lifting sessions when possible. Even if today was a fluke, it’s not a bad idea. My conditioning the past several months has been almost entirely running, so loaded carries could be a nice change.
I’m thinking of buying a sandbag. I remember trying to carry some at my previous gym, and they were humbling to say the least. Does anyone have a favorite brand?
I am curious to see how this program works for you. I don’t think my joints (at this point) can handle that kind of pull-up frequency.
It’s actually kinda refreshing to spread out the volume rather than have two days where I do tons of pullups willy-nilly. Easy Strength was also higher frequency but very low volume, and it worked well for my weighted pullups. I can’t speak to the joint issues though.
The ones I bought were from the rogue website, they were on clearance and around 30% off. Easy to fill and they have quite a few sizes available. Might want to check there?
Rogue seems like the classic answer for any equipment besides the SSB. I don’t mind supporting them, but they definitely cost a pretty penny. I’d read good things about REP’s sandbags, so I was also considering them. But (clearly) I am open to other thoughts as well. Rogue’s bumpers also look like they don’t cost too much, though of course I haven’t calculated shipping yet ![]()
Yeah the only reason I sprung on the rogue ones was because they were in clearance haha. Otherwise I don’t think I would’ve gone with them.
I have both a rogue and an ironmind bag. I prefer the design of the rogue but both are high quality.
10/30
I had the most annoying morning. I went all the way to get bloodwork done and ended up waiting three hours. It was even worse knowing I had to do a conditioning workout when I got home. I was still fasted when I got home around 12:30 and knew I’d rather get this done before finally eating.
Pullups 7,6,6,5,4
3x(16x23kg goblet squat + 300m “sprint”)
I wanted to try a spinoff of the Litvinov workout, and this was hellish to say the least. I was going to take my KB all the way to the track, but I was so antsy to finish this that I settled for a less trafficked section of sidewalk for the run. It actually wasn’t too bad, which for better or for worse lowers the barrier to entry for this type of workout.
I think the goblet squats were too light, and I probably had one more round left in me. It was still awesomely terrible and might become a staple for me.
I have a Cerberus one that does the job well.
Now we are talking. Do it you will love it
10/31
Pullups 7,7,6,5,4
Clean and Press worked up to 80x1
Whip Snatch 45x3x8 1:00 rest
Complex A (subbed military press for push press)x55x8,6,4
KB swing 27kgx1x40
15 dips
3x20 band pull aparts
I swapped the program’s clean grip snatches for the clean and presses. Dan recommended this setup for overhead work. The complex sucked, but I figure I might as well get used to it if I want to try MMS soon.
Over the summer I started letting myself stay up and wake up later than I’d like, but I’m glad that I’ve restored my sleep schedule in the past month or so. It feels good to finish lifting this early.
Not running today because I’m going hiking again with my new friend and her partner. I’m stoked.
