Back Injuries Anyone?

^ Pat let me just say that the DEA are cracking down hard on Dr’s and pain management. If you were a Dr would you sacrifice your career, lively hood and basically life on the “trust” of patients?

I used to get Fentynal sticks and MS Contin. Extreme pain relief. Which turns into rehab a year later, cause it’s so crazy addictive.

I didn’t find MS Contin that addictive. I could take them or leave them… But fentynal sticks? Wow! That’s hard core.[/quote]
If you chop up the MS Contin and snort it it works better. That was my practice. Yes, I had a problem and was way out of control.

I’ll also say this about pain management clinics: I started off just like everybody else, tried all the beta blockers, nerve block injections, Botox, Methadone, and ended up with Fentynal and Ms Contin. Then added in Fiorinal as well. And drank booze. It didn’t happen overnight. The first couple of clinics I did piss tests, but then moved and went to one that didn’t require any. It took several years of sliding down and losing grip on reality, but it happened.

If you truly need pain meds for more than a couple of months to be able to get through the day I understand. But if the Dr’s can’t get it figured out in 4-6 months, then you need to go to different Dr’s. I’ve been to over 9 neurologists in the country and stopped counting after 60+ different meds. Those fuckers are good with the pieces-parts-replacement, but if they are honest with you, they would tell you they really know very little about brain chemistry. They don’t even know exactly how many drugs work, just that they do for some people.
Yes, I’m a little sour about Dr’s…

I have a neck and back injury from a 2011 car accident. Herniated discs in C2, C3 and T7. I had a spinal epidural 2 months ago in C7-T1 and facet joint injections from T6 to T11 just last week. My neck is a lot better, the facet joint injections helped a little so far.

I see a pain management specialist, my regular MD wouldn’t give me anything for pain. This guy wrote me an Rx for 90 percosets right off the bat. Been getting them regularly, but I have to not over do them or I’ll run out. A couple of beers in the evening with one is a nice mix. No real constipation problems so far. I go back to see the pain management doc in a couple of weeks to see what’s next.

LOL I’m sorry Pat too busy laughing my ass off!

What do you guys do for exercises to work your back injuries? Obviously my back injury isn’t as bad as some of yours as I haven’t had to get surgery, but it seems like if I stop working out my lower back for more than 1 to 2 weeks it starts to get weak and hurt again. It’s almost like the muscle atrophies quickly or something since it gets so weak so fast which leads to pain again.

Atm, I’m doing good mornings and reverse hypers to focus on the the lower back. I feel like the reverse hypers hit the area I hurt more than the good mornings and regular hypers do. I still can’t lift much weight with those exercises though. Good mornings for example work my back more than anything. I don’t think I actually get any work for my hamstrings or glutes from them.

I just wish I could get it to a point where my back was as strong as it was before the injury and I didn’t need to focus on it so much to prevent it from hurting.

For some people with lower back problems doing lots of “core” stuff helps, since it’s all kinda interconnected and girdle-like.
I don’t do a lot of crunches or any core stuff really, but hanging leg raises are killer, as are holding a db between your feet with your ass on the edge of a bench and then raising and lowering it with your legs. I dunno what it’s called but it works the lower abs big time, and consequently your lower back. Or at least mine…

I’m aware of core work helping with lower back. I do leg raises too, just not the hanging kind because I can’t do them right yet. I do them on a dip station. Lifting my legs just parallel to the ground pulls on my lower back a bit. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be lifting my legs to the bar.

I’d just like to reach a point where my back’s strong enough that I could stop focusing so much on it and it wouldn’t hurt after a week or 2 of not working it out.

I remember reading something (probably here) that Louie Simmons designed the reverse hyper specifically to address some back problems that he was having. It did wonders for mine after dislocating my l5 from the sacrum.

Oddly enough, my current job requires carrying large pieces of steel angle, buckets of fitting keys, and wedges up and down the cargo hoppers of barges. Kinda like strongman type stuff, and my back has never felt better.

Core - Core and Core

The area from your ribs to your pelvis all works together and there are way too many excersises to list.

That is pretty much all I am doing at this point.
