After discussing this bill with other kids of hispanic decent, I have come to the conclusion they do not all understand the bill. I spent a fair amount of time reading over the mass majority of the bill, push provided it on page 7 of this thread, here it is again. Section 2, first page, section E, 37th line has the pertinent language - http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf - and my friend and I concluded that the bill actually helps immigrants, whether illegal or not. Now reality is going to be different because not all police are going to be unbiased in every case, but who is?
Next time a person says they have a problem with the bill, ask them which part exactly, I have yet to get a definitive answer.

Just ran into this problem today. This woman literally thought it was simply a law legitimizing racial profiling.

This is why we have laws because emotional decisions are discriminatory and ill-thought out and lead to bad decisions. Mexicans, Panamanians, any South American, and just about anyone in the world can immigrate legally to the United States. There are options for those south of the border. The ones that cross illegally are dismissing our laws because it does not suit their wants.
Mexico needs a social readjustment and redistribution of land and wealth. Until that happens, I invite those who qualify to apply for legal citizenship, or apply for a work permit or green card here in the U.S. as a way to better their situation.

Agreed. Why do people say crap like this? Let’s test them. Are they willing to help evacuate the entire world population of the poor from their home countries into ours? Are they ready to clear out the spare bedroom in their own homes, being assigned (by some social governement dept.) an empty belly to live with, and care for?
Drop the emotional arguments already. This is a serious issue. It’s a discussion about the duties and responsibilities a Government has in protecting it’s borders, it’s overburdened states, it’s citizens, and it’s legal pathways to citizenship. It’s a discussion about maintaining the culture and character of a nation, which has made it succesful in the first place.
