I was started on Axiron because of low T, 21/2 years ago. I was around 600 on 2 pumps once a day, 4 months ago switched to T Cypionate.5 once a week, came back at 1550, lowered to .25 a week. Now 586. I just found out that my first Doc really screwed up and my T was fine naturally at about 536, at age 67. Question, is my natural production of testosterone totally turned off once on injections of Cypionate?
How long to go back to baseline after 2 1/2 years? What side effects should I expect. What good would it do to taper off if your natural production is suppressed, wouldn’t it still be surprised even if I was reduced to .2 then .15 then .1 and so on. Would my own production of t not turn on till I’m on Zero Cypionate? I can’t find these answers anywhere? Waiting to talk to the Doc I have now but want some knowledge before I discuss with him. Thanks!
What was your free testosterone when you were at 536 total? E2? How were you feeling at the time? Assume there must have been a reason for you to consider TRT?
67 years old and 2-1/2 years on trt? I don’t think there will be any return to baseline. I could be wrong. But I would like to know how this turns out.
I understand that your total T was at 536, Free T matters more than Total T as its the free hormones that matter most. If your SHBG is higher (35-40) 536 may not be enough to provide enough free testosterone.
Low thyroid function has some of the same symptoms as low testosterone.
You were at 1550ng/dl at 100mg/week, surely this must be an exaggeration? Was this like the day after injection? Even so that’s a really high peak, I don’t even peak that high on 1ml of sustanon, 2.5x that dose, holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.
Anyhow a TT of 428 and a FT of 6.81 is low enough to experience symptoms of androgen deficiency. I wouldn’t recommend ditching TRT, being shut down for such a prolonged period of time, especially at your age will greatly hinder the chance of recovery (and recovery would still be borderline androgen deficiency in your case). Every scale gives different numbers because each scale represents a different sample of tested people. Many of these scales however aren’t based off of any testing, I can show you a study quoting many of these scales are not of any clinical signifigance and are just random numbers which really annoys me. Other scales are typically based off the general “healthy populace” which is stated as anyone who isn’t obese or with any major comorbidities, meaning anyone with a BMI of 25-30 is accepted, with 70 percent of the population being overweight, these ranges will be skewed, other variables taken into account are that people on SSRI’s, accutane, statins etc are typically accepted into the studies…
Thanks for info. Ya I got the first shot at Docs office .5 of Cypionate in gluteus. The only ting was that the day before I had my regular Axiron under arm. Which with one pump my t was 386 which as I find out now was almost 100 points below my baseline. I had my blood drawn four days later and my Doc went nuts because it came back at 1550, go figure. Went to .25 then blood draw came back at 586. So cutting it in half caused by t level to be cut by 2/3 go figure. The main reason I’m serious about coming off is my skin is so oily, especially my forehead and scalp. Maybe I’ll just go back to Axiron, it was never this bad on Axiron
, but my t was almost 200 points lower. Does T Cypionate cause more DHT, is DHT measured in the typical blood test. I appreciate all the information, it’s really difficult to get any good info about this.
No, typically gels and other topical products cause higher concentrations of DHT. oily skin is a common side effect of testosterone as it increases The size of the sebaceous glands therefore more sebum is produced, leading to oily skin and possibly acne. It’s not a big deal. What really matters is how you feel (libido, sense of well-being etc.) If you feel really good don’t give it up for some oily skin.
1550 isn’t even thaaaat high, your doc is scared of that? Sure, it’s higher than 99.9 percent of what most men produce naturally (although I’m pretty sure there’s a few guys with T productions of 1500-2000 just rare.) Bodybuilders have levels of 5-10000 sometimes, seriously it isn’t as if having a level of 1550ng/DL for a few days will kill you lol. Also if your SHBG was super high (don’t know what it is but let’s say your SHBG is something absurd like 200) then total test doesn’t mean jack shit. This is a simplified explanation I will elaborate tommorow
I appreciate the info, yes I do fell better on t therapy. I didn’t realize how much until which it had been 10 days since my last shot. I was taking 2 a week. Sundays .15 then Thursdays .1 to equal .25 a week. I was doing sub q rather than IM . Any thoughts on sub q vs IM and splitting shots up to twice a week rather than just once a wee. Well the other day I woke up and felt ok then by 10 AM I felt like I hadn’t slept in 10 years totally exhausted, didn’t get better so I used Axiron that afternoon because I knew it would bring me back up much quicker. Trying to decide between Cypionate shots or go back to Axiron, cost is zero my insurance cover either I pay like $5. A month, actually Cypionate costs more because of the syringes and needles. I don’t recall my skin being as oily on Axiron, maybe my t levels were just 200 or so points higher on Cypionate shots of .25 every week. Any knowledge on this I would appreciate.
