Awesome Shit to Buy in the USA

NY style pizza FTW!

The U.S is an awesome place to visit. You are going to have a great time.

I suggest you buy nothing that isn’t unique to the region you are in until you reach LA LA Land. Head to the outlets in LA and you can buy all the clothes and accesseries your heart desires. Why buy a load of clothes and have to lug them across the country.

Plan to spend the whole day that the outlets. Check out a Sports Authority for some good cheap lifting gear and sports gear. Timberland shop. Levis outlet. Nike store. Oh Man !

Check out a Ross, or is it Roz, can’t remember now. Ross Dress For Less, or something like that.

Don’t take any clothes with you. Just take a big bag.

I can’t believe everyone is telling you to eat at the fast food joints. Look around for small Mom and Pop restaurants and get yourself a decent meal.

If you are a Big Lebowski fan, then the In N Out Burger is a must.

Read a few good travel books on the US: Steinbecks ‘Travels With Charlie’, Jack’s K’s ‘On The Road’ are two though dated, good reads.

Definitely arm yourself with a Lonely Planet.

As Steinbeck said, ‘America is too packed with individuals for single judgements’.

For example, I went to Ukraine a few weeks ago and most electronics made by US companies cost nearly double.

I got my uncle an Ipod Touch for $500 and it costs a grand there.

Get a family pack of rubbers. I’m sure they have them there, but I just wanted a place to point this out… why the hell is it called a family pack? It really does say “family pack” on some of them.

Dad comes home, OK guys, get your weekly rations. … who the hell is in charge of marketing?

How did you like Ukraine? And I do agree, everything is a lot more expensive there.

If you’re going to buy electronics, make sure you can deal with some of them being broken. That happens. If you don’t label fragile, you’re screwed.
It was awesome. It was my second time visiting since I left when I was four. I went with my grandpa and stayed with my uncle and his family. The city is as beautiful as the women.

You probably wont find any Biotest stuff in stores. You can find Spike but thats about it. Possibly Surge also but thats it.

I second this they are only in California and get them animal style.

WRONG, In N’ Out is in Nevada too. Utah and Arizona too…

I can’t believe all the attention In n’ Out Burger gets. I thought it was going to be something amazing and then I had it in Phoenix. Meh. In Texas we have Whataburger. Whataburger shits In n’ Out Burgers.

Same thing with Fatburger. I heard how awesome they are, so I went to one in Scottsdale. It was alright, but still no bar burger.

Kiev, where I was born.

You’re from there too, I take it? Which part?

Thanks for the ongoing input. I don’t wanna clutter the thread by replying to every single post, but all the food advice is great… lol… might have to go on the v-diet after i get back

York Plate:
Thanks, that’s the kind of info I was specifically looking for! Sports Authority, you say?

DSmoiken:
Thanks for the heads up about the photo equipment, def need to get some new lenses for my SLR!

Also, if anyone is into stuff like:
High-quality denim
Good leather sh*t… Hand-crafted bags, belts, etc
Any pointers on where I can get some? I can get Levi’s, Timberlands, etc over here but I would be psyched to get some local, small-scale produced items.

(BTW, I don’t live in England, I moved to Russia. There’s a smaller variety of clothes here, so yeah, the empty bag thing is something I’m definitely doing)

How’s the weather in the states, by the way? Should I be going in sneakers or flip-flops?

And, as a final question, any of you know some good pizza places in NYC? I could probably look them up in lonely planet or online, but I’d value any references from you guys.

I would think Cali would be the place for leather, excellent leather workers in Mexico.

This is like asking how is the weather in China. You won’t be able to fathom how big the U.S is until you cross it.

Do you know if you are taking the northern or southern route?

If you are going soon, expect daytime temps in the 80’s/90’s with high humidity in the east, and 90/115 with low humidity in the west if you taken the southern route, cooler to the north. Also, it tends to really cool off at night in the desert regions.

With that being said, if you have the cash for clothes, you can always pick up jackets and such.

As for shoes, I would go with sneakers. If you wear flip flops off the beaten path, you will constantly be picking sand and pebbles out of them. JMO

Driving across the United States? Crazy. I’ve lived here my entire life and the space between NYC and LA is largely theoretical, I believe it’s occupied by farms, cows, dragons, and aliens from outer space. Should be quite an adventure…

I am from Lviv. Born and raised until I was five. But, I’ve only been back once. Still, it was fun.

F that. All the good rollers fled the Castro regime. Cubans are hardly worth the price considering the construction is hit or miss at best these days(unless you believe everything you read in Cigar Aficionado).
I don’t read “Cigar Aficionado”. Never bought expensive cubans either. Usually I’ll just get a 10-pack Habanos brand for like 20 bucks. But when it comes to good tasting cigars, the Jamaican brands are decent, for new smokers at least.

I was just about to say that haha, don’t forget to say ‘animal style’. In and Out is only in California, Reno, and Arizona btw.
They’re in VEGAS too.

I second ordering your double double animal style. Be sure to get a milk shake as well and don’t drink it with your straw. Drink it out of the cup and enjoy.

I like how a thread about what to buy in the USA becomes a thread largely about fast food.

:frowning:

I agree. Goin to Vegas on the third. I’m stopping there as soon as I land.

For photo equipment, a lot of the cheap stores in New York are ripoffs, but B&H (not short for Beards & Hats but it might as well be) is trustworthy.

Go to Brooklyn NY and get pizza and a canoli (its an italian pastry)from anywhere in the Bensohurst neighborhood. The best pizza in NY is probably from Lombardi’s in Little Italy, NY. Enjoy
