So… I’m going to the States in a couple of weeks. It’s my first time, and I wanna buy as much cool shit you can only get there as possible. Suggestions for things to buy and places to visit in your area appreciated.
For one, I wanna buy a bunch of Biotest stuff… 10x flameouts, and so on and so forth
gotta dodge those customs charges! Although, I’d have to find a store that sells them, so if you know of one in your area, again, tell me.
I’m going coast to coast, btw: NY to LA drive. [/quote]
Hey cool! It’ll be a blast for you. How long are you staying? Also, hope you can do it again sometime or other for a long period of time…as is the case with most countries, there’s too much to see in one short trip.
I think this is particularly the case here, as our country is so freaking large and each state/region has its own “personality” if you will, but then I’m biased :). Personally when I travel I like to spend as much time off the beaten path as possible. Or at least away from tourist “group outings” — you get a better feel for the country that way.
Anyway, I definitely recommend you see as many “natural landmarks” as you can—Yosemite National Park, The Grand Canyon, the rocky mountains (although if you’ve been around the Alps you may not think the Rockies all that great
).
I also recommend seeing as many different regions as possible. This shouldn’t be a problem since you’re driving cross country, but check out some of the pueblos in the southwest, the desert towers, Monument National Park, etc.
*** Make sure to sample food from each region! This is just me, but I would eat as much as possible since you’ll only be here a short while. Worry about the after effects of overindulging later :). You only get 1 trip so make it count.
Barbeque from Kansas City—At JackStack to be precise. JackStack is rated the best in the country in bbq restaurants (or in the top 3 ish). Each region has great specialties. Southern cooking, barbeque from Texas, tennessee, carolina. True Chicago style pizza (Gino’s East, among other excellent choices), New York Style pizza, etc.
I’D see at least one baseball game at historic Wrigley field in chicago or fenway in Boston MA. great fans, long standing historic ballparks and teams. Go with someone who knows the game really well IF you can help it. And one football game if you are still going to be in the country when the season starts. tailgating for a football game is an experience.
Hell, just BEING at a football game is a crazy experience. You’ll most likely want to plan ahead for the date/region since tickets will be scarce. You can always pick one up from a scalper though if all else fails. People can advise you on which teams/fans give the best experience.
As far as Biotest goes, they sell mostly from the website. Someone else might be able to point you around to a store that carries all their stuff, but I’d suggest just trying to get somebody’s home address that you know, or would let you ship there and then just shipping a big box of goodies to the house. Cheaper than store, and no shipping charges.
