Awesome Shit to Buy in the USA

So… I’m going to the States in a couple of weeks. It’s my first time, and I wanna buy as much cool shit you can only get there as possible. Suggestions for things to buy and places to visit in your area appreciated.

For one, I wanna buy a bunch of Biotest stuff… 10x flameouts, and so on and so forth  gotta dodge those customs charges! Although, I’d have to find a store that sells them, so if you know of one in your area, again, tell me.

I’m going coast to coast, btw: NY to LA drive.

Theres nothing particularly cool in my area…

But, might I suggest ordering the Biotest stuff to a place you’ll be staying at or if you know someone in the area? I would imagine the prices at the stores would be more expensive and you might as well get it cheap as possible.

Guns, knives, and drugs, all things much easier to get in the US then in most other countries.

Most of the people I know are students who’re out for the summer, unfortunately. I mailed Biotest asking if I could make an order and pick it up from Colorado Springs, where I believe the offices are located, so I’m hoping for that. Otherwise, I’ll probably have to buy through retail… Don’t wanna order to youth hostels!

If you swing by Philadelphia, get a cheesesteak, a soft preztel and a rita’s water ice.

And swing by Wawa (a convenience store) that will blow you away with somehow having everything you’ll ever need.

Cheeseburger, fries and milkshakes.

What are you into? Clothes are cheap here compared to England. Pack an empty suitcase and go home with new clothes.

Guns, and some pretty kickass fireworks in South Carolina.

When I was in England a couple of years ago most of the shit I thought was cool was pretty mundane to them. One of my english friends stocks up on Wrangler jeans everytime he comes over here.

Stetson hat!

Hey cool! It’ll be a blast for you. How long are you staying? Also, hope you can do it again sometime or other for a long period of time…as is the case with most countries, there’s too much to see in one short trip.

I think this is particularly the case here, as our country is so freaking large and each state/region has its own “personality” if you will, but then I’m biased :). Personally when I travel I like to spend as much time off the beaten path as possible. Or at least away from tourist “group outings” — you get a better feel for the country that way.

Anyway, I definitely recommend you see as many “natural landmarks” as you can—Yosemite National Park, The Grand Canyon, the rocky mountains (although if you’ve been around the Alps you may not think the Rockies all that great  ).

I also recommend seeing as many different regions as possible. This shouldn’t be a problem since you’re driving cross country, but check out some of the pueblos in the southwest, the desert towers, Monument National Park, etc.

*** Make sure to sample food from each region! This is just me, but I would eat as much as possible since you’ll only be here a short while. Worry about the after effects of overindulging later :). You only get 1 trip so make it count.

Barbeque from Kansas City—At JackStack to be precise. JackStack is rated the best in the country in bbq restaurants (or in the top 3 ish). Each region has great specialties. Southern cooking, barbeque from Texas, tennessee, carolina. True Chicago style pizza (Gino’s East, among other excellent choices), New York Style pizza, etc.

I’D see at least one baseball game at historic Wrigley field in chicago or fenway in Boston MA. great fans, long standing historic ballparks and teams. Go with someone who knows the game really well IF you can help it. And one football game if you are still going to be in the country when the season starts. tailgating for a football game is an experience.

Hell, just BEING at a football game is a crazy experience. You’ll most likely want to plan ahead for the date/region since tickets will be scarce. You can always pick one up from a scalper though if all else fails. People can advise you on which teams/fans give the best experience.

As far as Biotest goes, they sell mostly from the website. Someone else might be able to point you around to a store that carries all their stuff, but I’d suggest just trying to get somebody’s home address that you know, or would let you ship there and then just shipping a big box of goodies to the house. Cheaper than store, and no shipping charges.

Oh and, yes, definitely get some western wear from Texas. Stetson hat, boots, and some regular Wranglers or Levi jeans and maybe a few western shirts. That’s about as uniquely American as you can get.

Just do me a favor and get some authentic western wear and not crappy colorful/touristy/ornamented “western” wear. Head out to do some horse riding if you can find a place that gives a GOOD countryside/wilderness tour away from civilization and large groups of people.

Should also be possible to do something like this in the Southwest desert areas and other parts of the midwest and Colorado.

Surfer culture is also pretty uniquely American, but I don’t know much about what you can buy that’s useable if you’re not already a surfer. But totally take some surf lessons and maybe see some surfing action when you’re in California. See some extreme sports out there in person if you can. Skateboarding or BMX biking shows, etc.

Oh, and if you decide to drive through Kansas City, I can offer you a few places to ship Biotest goodies. I got a couple buddies there that’d most likely be fine with it if they knew when the package was coming.

Cuban cigars… wait, oh sh–

It’s alright, get waffle fries though if you go to Carl’s Jr… Make sure they are fresh.

If you happen to be in the west coast area, hit up In-n-out burger. Most people love it.

I don’t know where you live, but many electronics cost more in other countries.
For example, I went to Ukraine a few weeks ago and most electronics made by US companies cost nearly double.

I got my uncle an Ipod Touch for $500 and it costs a grand there.

Get a family pack of rubbers. I’m sure they have them there, but I just wanted a place to point this out… why the hell is it called a family pack? It really does say “family pack” on some of them.

Dad comes home, OK guys, get your weekly rations. … who the hell is in charge of marketing?
