Awesome Military Combat PC Game

This is surely a long shot, but if any of you are interested in, well, computer games, then I’ve got just thing for you.

It’s called F.E.A.R. – First Encounter Assault Recon – and it’s a kick-ass fps (first person shooter) on the PC. It’s also set to be released on Xbox 360 & PS3, according to Wikipedia, but that’s irrelevant for the purpose of this post.

There are many fun shooters on the PC, but what’s special about F.E.A.R is that the multiplayer component of the game has just been made available to the public, for FREE. You can download it and start playing against others, free of charge.

The game has a realistic and fast-paced combat system. It takes place in a variety of urban locations.
It does require somewhat of a beefy system to run properly. You should also have a broadband connection in order to play online. Below, I’ve listed some of the minimum specs your system should have in order to run the game decently.

Processor: Pentium 4 or equivalent
RAM: 512 mb or greater

How to check:
Right-click My Computer, go to properties, check RAM/CPU stats under the General tab.

Video Card:
nVidia Geforce 6600 series, 6800 series, or higher, or ATI equivalent.

How to check:
Right-click an empty area of your desktop, select properties. Goto the settings tab. Click advanced. Your video card will be listed under the Adapter tab.

Go to the above link to download the game. You will need to register to recieve a free CD-key, which is required in order to install it.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

It’s gonna have a hard time dragging me from America’s Army, a completely free, completely online, pretty realistic FPS. www.americasarmy.com. Also check out www.aaotracker for more of an idea about the game. Awesome once you get into it.

your both very wrong, battlefield 2 is the best fps EVER.all realistic actual weapons of the militaries involved, including tanks, humvee’s, planes, choppers. i have never seen a game that could come close in realistic detail.

I started playing FEAR last night. Have to wait for the little one’s to get in bed before I can play it some more. So far, so good.

youre all wrong, delta force 2, my all time favorite first person shooter. I still play online everynow and then, not bad for a 1999 release

Doesn’t it also require some sort of super computer to run without looking ugly?

Ha, funny how fast this thread turned into a “my game is better than your game” discussion. But why argue when we can play? Who is going to try out FEAR?

Doogie, I see that you’ve already got it. What do you think about setting up some games between me and you and anyone else who signs on?

Yeah I like Fear. Half Life 2 is also really good, but recently I’ve been into Jedi Outcast again. Just love slashing dudes up with a lightsaber.

IT’s a cool game. I definitely wouldn’t consider it realistic by any means, but great brain candy.

Let me work through it a little more. I can’t get the controls to where they are natural yet. I’ve been playing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, so this is an adjustment.

I’m an avid BF2 player, but I did try a demo of FEAR back a few months ago, I thought it was on line but I could be wrong. I’m gonna try this one out just for good measure, looks fun. Any server info for servers you play on or what?

You can check out my BF2 clan’s server, good map rotation and mature team oriented players www.dd-devildogs.com the server info is on there.

Semper Fi!

DF2 actually was a great game until the cheaters took over. I spent many nights running around Last Stand having a blast.

I actually played the Fear demo and it was nice. A free full version sounds cool.

As long as you guys are NOT playing CS, it’s all good.

I still have never been more engrossed or at the edge of my seat and being completely immersed in a game as I have been with Full Spectrum Warrior. Its a great game. At first I was shunned at the fact of not controlling the shooting and being bored but commanding the troops really took a lot of concentration and there wasnt any let down. The atmospheric music is absolutely amazing.

Too bad I cant play it anymore as I sold my Xbox and my Xbox 360 cant play that particular Xbox game. I may get Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers for my PC though. The latter is a great game and this one should be no different.

That is the glorious thing about Battlefield 2 you can play commander! I found FSW boring, not enough action and too much get this guy here stuff.

I’ve had a lot of fun with “Brothers In Arms: The Road to Hill 30” on the Xbox. It’s WWII (like about 500 other titles) but it’s very well done. The tactics involved are also interesting (The four Fs: Find, Fix, Flank, Finish). And you pretty much have to plan your engagements around those tactics or you get killed rather quickly.

One thing I miss on these modern consoles (and on the computer too) is those old style strategy games like Nectaris: Military Madness, or those old SSI Panzer General games. Games that didn’t involve twitch reflexes, but careful planning and a good strategy to overcome unfavorable odds.

Ohh yeah, Call of Duty 2 on the PC kicks some major ass when you play it multiplayer on line. The only thing that sucks is most server are laggy.

How come? It’s got realistic damage modeling, weapons, and takes place in real-world locations.

While we’re on the subject, the most realistic shooter I’ve ever played is Ghost Recon, the original tactical shooter for the PC. Subsequent versions were dumbed-down for the console kiddies, but the original GR is king. If you’ve never played it and enjoy tactical shooters, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

P.S. All this talk about games - how come no one has signed up yet??!

I bought FEAR the day it came out. LOVED it. The single-player campaign was spooky as all get-out. I was playing one night with all the lights off, speakers cranked, and had just gotten through one of the paranormal slow motion assault sequences when my wife tapped me on the shoulder. I screamed, she screamed, the cat took off running. Not quite as engrossing the second time through, and the multiplayer is pretty standard run and gun, but well worth playing.

Good to hear, Crispy. It is, indeed, a scary game in singleplayer. I would also HIGHLY recommend you look into a game called Doom 3, if you haven’t already. It’s likely the scariest game ever made. If you enjoyed FEAR, you will love D3.

I did like Doom 3; I think the graphics are a bit better than FEAR, overall. Since it’s a bit more cartoony and with a different species as the antagonist, I think its a bit easier to make it look better.
Doom didn’t have the story line or the tension that FEAR did, though. One level in particular in FEAR (you’re running through a construction area in a building, lights flickering, and that damned little girl knocking stuff out of the ceiling and walls on occasion) that scared the bejeesus out of me.

Never really felt that with Doom. The advanced weaponry is fun, the lighting is teriffic, but the story rather suffered. All that and the end “boss” of Doom3 was the silliest since the original Half-Life.
