Lulz I was kind of annoyed at that trolling joke in the first episode.
But we’re most likely going to find out when in May when part 2 of The Promise comes out.

I have hope Toph is alive
Man I wish Sokka was still alive, would’ve been fun seeing him as an old man

Is Bolen (sp? - earthbender brother dude) the same person who voiced Sakka?
Since the only two people to see the move that strips Benders of power was The Avatar and the Fire Lord. Which one passed on the secret? If that is what this really is. Remember the Fire Lord Lived.

I think it’s some sort of gimmick. He is able to convince them they are unable to bend psychologically so they end up not being able to. Either that or he went and met with the magic sea lion turtle.

I agree. I dont see how a non bender is able to literally strip benders of their power.
I think it is probably some form of advanced chi-blocking, ala the way the benders are able to develop new bending skills from their basic ones (earth to metal bending, fire to lightning bending, etc). So he could be using an advanced form of chi blocking that is permanent or at least a lot more long-lasting.
Of course it could be some gimmick, too, or some completely different way. The’ll explain it at some point and we may have to wait for quite a while before that happens.
I doubt he met the giant turtle thing, I don’t think giving non-avatars a special ability (or maybe releasing a dormant ability, not sure which one actually happened) is the turtle’s MO. He would have been able to tell the intentions of the masked guy and wouldn’t help him. Besides that taking away peoples’ bending wouldn’t go along with the whole mystical/nature aspect of the theme of the story. Wouldn’t want to limit it.
Also, I’m sure that this new series will be chock-full of flashbacks showing how things came about. I’m sure we’ll see Ang and the crew as full-fledged adults here and there in flashback form and find out what happened to everyone before the series wraps up. Again, it may be a while before we find out, though…
So far, the new series is awesome. I like how Ang’s son is trying to be serious, but literally everyone around him keeps him from being able to do it and he learns to accept it for the most part. Very interesting themes going on.

Weren’t most of the crew around to see it. I mean, they weren’t on the cliff watching it first hand, but they had to have seen the light show and were immediately there and knew about it. I’m sure it’s common knowledge in their world of what happened.
If Zuko’s still alive (or anyone else from the original) I can’t wait to see what he’s like now. His son is probably the current fire lord.

well toph was pretty funny and cool. but her daughter seems like a bitch. maybe their children just turned out bad. tenzen is pretty hilarious in his own way though.
SPOILER FOR AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER
btw, in book 2 chapter 2/3, title: the swamp.
there’s this dude bending the vines in the swamp. he was this fat dude in a giant vine monster-like thingy. grass/nature bending anyone???
Toph was stubborn, too, which may be the main trait that was passed to her daughter. I wonder if her daughter’s also an earth bender and we just haven’t seen her use it yet. I bet she’s real powerful, which would be how she got her rank in the city.
And the swamp guys are just bending the water that’s in the vines. But I thought it was really just that one guy who did it.

Ah, you’re the guy who read the comics, nice.
I probably could have put 2 and 2 together when I noticed that their law enforcement were metal benders. Sweet, I bet she’s a beast, too, just like her mommy was.
His daughter? Nice. I’m also curious about what if anything ever happened with his father, I’m sure that will be explained whenever they reveal what happened to his mother.
uhhh, is anyone still watching this. Just saw episode 7 and this series is way better then i expected it to be.
I just can’t wait to see korra in the avatar state/ see aang old and give korra advice like Roku used to do (from the short clips they’ve shown of him , he looks pretty boss)
EDIT: also wanna hear more about other characters from the original series
or you know what, they should make a movie of what happened after aang and the crew destroyed the fire nation and show how the non bender group came about

I still have hope we will see a movie or mini-Series on The Search for the Fire Lords Wife.
I’m still watching. No new episode this week unfortunately. I will say they seem to get right into things unlike the first one that had a good bit of filler. That being said I actually enjoyed most of the filler episodes in the first series and this one seems almost a bit too fast paced. It’d be nice for some filler episodes that helped develop the characters more.
