Nah, not just you man. A lot of threads are going in different directions these days. Even my “your principles” thread has been veering off at times.
I’ll try to help out with this. I’ve got a 4 week old at home plus a toddler, so I just noticed that we have a check-in thread. I’ll get a video or two this week and then contribute to get us back on track.
If you’re talking about current trends this wouldn’t surprise me at all. The invention of internet porn has induced a generation of unrealistic sexual expectations amongst current youth. Furthermore, when you’ve got unlimited access to methods of “release” there might be less incentive to actually… Go out and meet women.
I don’t think pornography is a bad thing per se, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it serves as a demotivating factor amongst youth when trying to procure a mate.
This isn’t Playboy anymore, online pornography is considerably more graphic. My hypothesis could be wrong, I haven’t seen any solid data to back up what I think here.
Move this on over to PWI, bud. This isn’t the thread for this.
Ok. To get us back on track, I have an actual “check in” video for us:
By way of explanation, I have spent the last several months with a different training focus than most of my time on this site. A couple years of pushing my max deadlift (which I do love…) without as much regard for bodyweight and health left me a bit too husky, and with a back that was getting cranky.
I have dropped 40 pounds in six months, from 258.6 on February 4 to a morning weight of 218.6 today. For most of the summer my training has been a daily walk and a slew of pull-ups and kettlebell presses. One of my “that would be neat to achieve someday” goals that feels good to pursue right now is some of the StrongFirst standards; one that feels within reach this year is strict pressing the Beast (48kg/106 pounds). If I combine that strength with my final bodyweight goal of getting and staying under 210, that would be a half-bodyweight one-armed press, which seems cool. Anyways, all of that said, here’s the video from this morning:
I’ve been lucky in that the only affect COVID has had on my training is that I can always commit to 4 days a week and still keep up on cardio/mobility. Only issue is that it is more stressful than “normal” life and sometimes I end up having 1-3 drinks a night after work to unwind a bit. So I’m bigger, stronger, in better cardio shape, and fatter than I was before COVID. Not all bad. Lifting videos below.
505 Deadlift from late May
460 Squat from late May
460 Conventional Deadlift from last week
I haven’t really done anything video-worthy on upper body lifts other than missing a 310 bench.
Damn you’re strong. That squat was super narrow, also
Thanks man. Yeah, I have to squat narrow like that and get my legs involved more than some people. My spine is deformed and as soon as I widen my stance much beyond what it was in the video I have a lot of trouble keeping my pelvis from tilting. If it tilts forward, I can jam my vertebrae into my spinal cord and that hurts. A lot. If anything, I’ve been a stronger squatter with this narrow stance anyway, so I’m not too upset about it ![]()
I’ve still been slowly coming down in weight. 188 this morning. I’ve got a bit of a lower back tweak at the moment, so I’ve really been training my conditioning for the past couple of months. 8 months of eating carnivore.
Look at them quads, bro!
Very nice job.
Here’s a 405 x 3 deadlift and a hard attempt at rep #4 (if you watch long enough). BW 160.

Hell yeah dude!
I’m working at 500 for sure…I didn’t expect a base building program to work this well!
It’s awesome to see things looking up for you
i always get a kick at you celebrating after completing the lift. Lol. Good one dude!
Yeah, for a while there I thought I wasn’t gonna make it through. I’m pretty much out though. I move into my dorm in 8 days.
Now that was an RPE of 11! ![]()
Good lifting, man. ![]()
I almost got a seizure watching all that shaking hahaha
@liftangryordie500 good work buddy!
