Travel to Phoenix tomorrow morning. 14 hour drive. Weight has been around 176-178, should make getting to 175.5 pretty easy. Goal is to qualify for nationals then meet all my T-Nation idols there.

Travel safe and kick ass!

Good luck Brady. God speed.

Good luck @brady888 you got this man!

Weighed in at 178 at the hotel scale. Gonna soak in the hot tub till weigh ins open at 3, should be an easy water drop. Fingers crossed the promoters have a normal scale and i can avoid the misery I felt last year.

175.4, weighed in about as close as possible after only 30 minutes in a hot tub. Gallon of powerade, electrolyte concentrate, 3 RTD shakes, and all-you-can-eat fish chips, I’m up to 189 as of 4 hours later. Got to feel out the implements and see the no-longer-mystery keg weights. Should be a fun day.

Number 2 in the books. Not quite the outcome I had in mind, but a lot of fun and learning. Took 2nd in 4 out of 5 events, 1st in the last.
Videos and pictures when I get home.

Event 1: Log Clean and Press away
192 lbsx6 reps. 2nd place
I struggled with the handles being a bit wider than the log I practiced on. Need to work on wider grip overhead work. Also need jerk technique, winner got 9, all with a pretty deep split jerk.

Event 2: Last Man Standing Deadlift
545, 2nd place
Winner hit 585, which I missed in my traditional pull-till-blackout fashion. Need to bring up my conventional to where my sumo has been.
On a side note, the middle weight winner pulled 755 faster than lightspeed and my brain exploded.

Event 3:
Stone over 50" bar AMRAP
150 lbsx14 reps, 2nd place
Wsted energy in the first half, threw stones too high. Also let competition get to me and picked a few crooked. Needed to relax a bit and stay steady/consistent.

Event 4: Yoke Walk/Tire Flip Medley, 80 ft each
530/435, 1:18, 2nd Place
Ears turned off, which wasn’t helpful. Might have paced a bit more efficiently if I knew where I was standing, so I should have been listening. Regardless, if I could have pushed harder, I should have. I don’t think I left anything on the table, so I can’t complain.

Event 5: Keg/Husafell/Keg Medley, 80 ft each
120/140/190, 0:43, 1st Place
Carries are my jam. I take some pride in my tolerance of discomfort, and it paid off. While loading the empty husafell stone onto the platform, i wanted to make sure I cleared the lip. Instead, I threw the husafell over the platform and almost squished the loader behind the platform. I then looked up in horror at the head judge to see if that still counted or if I needed to go get it. After the longest 2 seconds of my life he starting screaming, ā€œGo, go! Don’t worry!ā€, so I then sighed in relief and got back to business.

I lost to a very seasoned (at least in comparison to myself) competitor, and it showed me many holes in my preparations that I will attempt to address in the future.

I may be getting down to Oregon on March 17th for another competition. The events look awesome and it was a great show last year. The promoter said there are already over 100 competitors registered. Sounds like a party
