Can you post a video of your hang powers? All the shit you do is crazy as fuck, so it’s something cool to show the people I work with. Ha
Sure, I usually will pull again on Tuesday. I’ll record some hang cleans and high pulls.
I think I have a video posted on here somewhere of me missing a 275 reverse curl-esque clean lol.

1 set of 32 with 10 lb weight behind head. Nasty cramp
I’ve decided to make my overhead work more specific to strongman. All overhead work will be done with leg drive, and strict work will be done seated or on a bench. I haven’t seen much help from strict to push pressing or vis versa, and I’m hoping the heavier benching (and the added tricep stimulation) will bring some faster progress with my log press/push press numbers. Also, I’m hoping my shoulders will be more fresh for the overhead work due to lowering the heavy overhead work to once a week.
Goal is to hit a 225x3 minimum, stretch goal 225x5+ log press before the end of the year. Current best is 230×1. Also, would like to get 190 for 8+ on a log, hopefully close to 12 to prep for my next strongman competition.
How many times a week are you going to start benching? It’s always crazy to me when I read your log and we literally do the same shit (obviously with you KILLING me on most things), but after only overhead pressing for the past 4 months after a hiatus, I’m probably going to start benching again as well. Twice a week, low volume (75-85% singles one day, 65-75% 3x6-10 the next) before my overhead sets, but only in the pursuit of a bigger overhead. Are you competing again soon?
Starting with one. I’ve had 4 definite training days a week, with some extra work thrown in when I’m feeling spunky. Two upper, two lower. For the past little while it’s been one strict press and one push press. At least initially, I’ll just be dropping the strict standing pressing day for the bench day, with incline bench being the primary press.
Next competition is Feburary. Are you in the U.S. and close enough to Phoenix to compete?
Nah man, I live in Georgia. I’ve thought about it in the past, and may still try my hand at it at one point, but not at the moment. If I complete in anything, it’d probably be a powerlifting meet to be honest.
If you’re considering doing powerlifitng and strongman, definitely do powerlifitng first. Otherwise the powerlifitng meet will be quite a disappointment ![]()
I have got to the Same conclusion. Where is your push press at currently?
Do you guys think it is because you are getting “too much” leg drive? I don’t see a lot from my SP to my PP or vice versa when I do the traditional Olympic style form, but when I just use my legs to slightly start the weight and then use a slow negative, they’re more in line with each other. (Side not, in not a super strong OHP’er, just my conclusion)
Best is 230 log, and I thiiiiink 235 with a barbell. I’ll have to look back and check.
I’m sure that if I used less leg and stayed a bit more rigid, my strict press and push press would be closer to one another.
However, other than for my ego, I don’t care what I can standing strict press. I have never seen that as a competitive lift. Also, pushing high percentage singles with a strict press brings me more discomfort than just about any other lift.
Might be the case but I train to push as much weight over my head as possible, so I don’t use that technique. I use my legs as good as I can. Although I still have to use my arms a lot in the push press.
Good stuff! Jealous of your Log lift. Funnily my best push press equals yours but my log ist way behind.
I think I need to get more accoustamed to it.
@oldbeancam apparently filming makes me way better lol

You’re officially not human.
The bar flex in the video makes me giggle like a schoolgirl ![]()
Definitely human though. My elbow is really feeling it. I’ll enjoy my off day tomorrow.
I did some with 225 yesterday and followed them up with push presses and get like dying. I can’t imagine 285. Really good shit man.
Do you know what events are at your show, and how’s your training going to shift towards it? Also, does your trap bar have ridiculous knurling? I did some carries yesterday for some conditioning, but the knurling was so aggressive at my new gym my hands were beat after working and shit.
More log rather than axle or barbell overhead, more stones instead of cleans, yoke work will replace some lunges, and some more medleys and conditioning work.
My trap bar has 2" grips and pretty sharp knurling. It’s a bit of a cheese grater if it slips at all.
