Attempts at Strongman

For our size, that’s a really good push press. For some perspective, in the 200 lbs weight class in Texas, the records for both axle and log in competition are like 305 or 310. And most of the guys who are approaching those numbers are jerking rather than pressing. I know of exactly one person in the Texas/Oklahoma area who push presses 300ish in the 200 class. If you could push press a 255 log in a local comp, you’d likely win or take second in the event. 275 is usually going to be enough to win.

Don’t say “our” That makes me even more self conscious :joy:

I want low 3 minimum. But I can totally understand that not sounding reasonable for a 170 competitor. I would really like a double competition weight overhead press (I’m sure if I make 170 the night before, I’m closer to 185-190 by the time I’m rehydrated). 340 sounds good, 380-400 sounds like a stretch goal if I ever get out out of the lightweight class.

I"m pretty sure the LW record overall is well under 400 for the log. Maybe in the 370 range? Even the light middleweight record (under 200 lbs) is likely under 400, although I’m not positive on that one.

I do expect to break 300 in the under 200 class, because I’m only walking around at 195, and I’m so close already. But I’m also aware that I’ll be pressing with the best in the class when I get to that point, lol. As shitty as my carries are though, I really have to be dominating the static events. I SHOULD be winning presses regularly. The fact that I’m not currently is a problem.

Do you have access to most carry implements?

Yea, we have a lot of things. Kegs weighing up to 250, a loadable metal hussafel stone, several concrete hussafel stones, yoke, farmers handles, frames, duck walk handle, various sleds including prowler, tires up to 900 lbs, harness for a truck pull, ropes, etc. The only thing we don’t have that I can think of is a conan’s wheel. But that can essentially be simulated with the yoke.

Wanna have a trap bar carry off?

that sounds like fun. Like a race? Or some sort of max?

I haven’t really ever trained with a trap bar, but I’ve trained with frames, which are essentially the same thing. I have a frame max deadlift event, and a frame carry in my next comp. The frame will be a pick height of 12" I believe. I should be good for close to 700 on that. The carry is 430 for 60 feet, paired with a 60 foot duck walk, 225 weight I think. I’ve done as much as a 500 frame carry in comp for 60. I’m pretty sure it took like 20 seconds for me, I get really slow when the weights get that heavy.

what do these look like? I’m having trouble visualizing this. Like no hand on anything at all or on your knee? Also, is it one arm or two? I may try this tonight

I’m up for either. Since i picked the event I’ll let you pick the stipulation. I’m up for max weight, max distance with a weight, fasted time with a weight…or anything you could be thinking of.

One arm at a time, just bent over at the waist. The non rowing arm is just hanging, not resting on the knee

Gotcha. thanks man. I may throw these in the mix tonight

Changed my mind, I want to pick one variation. Straps allowed, 530 lbs for max distance.

Tried the rows. I got 40 on each side first set, 30R 28L the second. May keep something similar to this to use as a bench mark test for back endurance and such.

oooooooo that’s an interesting one. I like it, i’ve never done a max distance frame carry. I won’t be able to give this a shot until after my comp in a week. I’m already starting my deload for it.

Alright mister bigshot, I’ll just need to do 50+ per arm today then

Race to 100?

Sure, sure! Now at 46
