The problem you religious boys are making is trying to find a rational argument to support the existence of souls. You’re forgetting about the thing that separates theology from science: FAITH. If proof did exist that we all had souls and that God did create the universe, then you wouldn’t be applying faith at all, and hence wouldn’t be practicing religion at all. You’d all be blasphemers like the rest of us atheists, relying on reason and proof in our belief systems.

That point has been brought up several times in previous, similar threads. I agree 100%.
It’s nice to see a ‘religous boy’ and a god-forsaken hell bound atheist see eye to eye every once in a while.
One can know something exists without the ability to prove it to others. if i am walking in the woods and I see an alien spaceship sitting in a clearing and I walk up to it and little green men come out and shake my hand, invite me in for tea and then they take off I know it was real but i cannot prove it to anyone. Even vidoe evidence of something like this is not considered proof. Therefore I can meditate and communicate with my soul in such a way that I know it exists, but do not have the ability to prove this experience with anyone else. Unless I teach them to meditate and communicate with thier own souls.
Loth, if you would be so kind as to let me do an expiriment… you can be my guinea pig. So you can prove to yourself that you have no soul if you will. And I can try to prove to you that you do. If not thats ok, and by the way… the way you look at things is right on the money even if I think you have a soul.

That was my point! He concludes something that he it isn’t logical to conclude. His argument is completely flawed!
You’re right. But the other problem I have is in the implication that since it’s incorrect to declare that souls don’t exist because it hasn’t been proven that they do, then the likelihood of their existence is suddenly elevated. As far as I’m concerned, it’s as likely that I have an invisible spotter named Stuart than it is that human beings have souls. In the absence of any evidence aside from widespread belief, then I’m afraid that both unproven notions are on the same level in terms of likelihood.
Some people do consider the fact that certain religions have been followed for so many centuries to constitute enough evidence for them to assign greater weight to that particular belief system. To me, that’s weak, as plenty of people have believed plenty of things that were wrong (and plenty still do). Unsupported widespread belief that spans millennia is evidence of nothing in my mind. But that’s just me. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Mine just happens to be the correct one.
to all the religious types that decided to ignore the “athiests only” warning and hijack the thread: do you believe animal’s have souls? why or why not??

i CATEGORICALLY agree with chrispowers. beliefs should remain as beliefs.
he expressed the subjectivity of beliefs, and im very tired of people telling me im gonna go to hell because they misunderstand their own beliefs to be objective.
if people would stop trying to prove the existence of the unprovable then i would stop combating them with a dose of their own logic.
i hope you all know that i argue because i enjoy it…

thx a ton for the kind words.
i dont know about you, but ive found that latest episode of southpark to be the most blasphemous thing ive witnessed. it was sooooooo fun to witness tho. i guess that’s the joy of living life for the joy of it…

That was a joke.
don’t sell yourself short, dude! you understand that beliefs don’t need to be rational to enhance your quality of life! you understand that meaning can only be found within!
yet you belie your wisdom by announcing your lack of clarity.
who cares about what others think! IT’S A BELIEF! if you don’t think you are right and your beliefs are right for you then why should anyone listen to you?

Yeah… I like my sacred cow medium-rare. Just a little bloody, ya know!
I think that the Woodland Critter Christmas tied for first in terms of blasphemy with Red Sleigh Down, though. I think Christmas brings out the beast in Matt and Trey.

I know, I know - no religous types allowed in your little atheists only mutual admiration society thread - but dammit - you can’t put up a member’s only sign and then start talking about South Park. Especially the critter christmas episode. I cried it was so funny.

It’s cool, RJ. We’ll make you an honorary heathen or something… I think that there’s a certificate or some shit I have to send you, but we’ll just say that you got it already.
I don’t know about y’all, but when they killed Jesus last year in the Christmas episode, I thought for sure that they were gonna follow it up with an Easter episode where he comes back to life or something. Oh well.
I entitled this thread the way I did just because I figured the subject matter would twist the panties of the spiritually inclined amongst us. It’s not like we atheists don’t value everybody’s input or anything. I merely saw no need to piss certain people off just because I’m a dick.
But what do I know? I’m a whore, and a hypocrite!! hehehe

I’m more of a hedonist than a heathen - but I really like certificates.
For as much as I defend my faith - I have as much of a problem with organized religion as most of you god forsaken hell bent atheists.

Hah, but claiming that my opinion is unequivocably correct would be violating the very rationality that I just finished extolling!
What wisdom would I be belying if I didn’t demonstrate the wisdom to allow for the possibility that I’m wrong?
Good discussion, though. This would have to be among the few bodybuilding / weight training forums where you can have an intellectual discussion that actually makes you think, all while researching effective training techniques, nutrition, and supplementation. How awesome is that?
