I’m very curious about Westside training with bands and chains lately. I’ve read some articles and hit up Elitefts and looked at there stuff too.
Most of the big dawgs I see using Westside are very strong already. I’m not so. 6’4, 215lb, I currently probably max bench 195-200. I started out benching 155 just two weeks ago, now I’m hitting 180 for hopefully 3. So I’m getting pretty good gains, and quickly on my bench. My real problem areas are my legs. I barely DL 300 and my squat is hovering around 225. Would chains and or bands be beneficial for my posterior work, at my strength level? Or should I just focus on straight lifting for now?
to be honest with you i think you should hold off on the bands and chains right now…i think your an athlete who would benefit from extra work outs and lots of gpp to build a base in your post chain and bring your work capacty up…you also need reps in your training…you need pres that build mass and strength at the same time…rep schemes of 5x5 and 3x3 will help you a ton and BIG asstitant work it also very imprtant for you ( dumbell presses, shoulder press, high board presses, high pin lock outs, chins, rows, stiff leg deads, good mornings, back raises, heavy ab work) this stuff will give a base that will inturn get you ready for chains and bands and speed work…right now think of your self asa house and your building a base so you can turn it into a mansion…bm
Straight lifting & get your diet in order a la “Massive Eating”. Don’t start the M1T yet if you’re making great gains. Besides, it sounds like you have a ton of ground to cover naturally first.
I gotta second the M1T. You need to put that in the cupboard for ATLEAST six months preferably a year or more and focus on what you are going to gain from just lifting and creating a good solid base b4 turning to the M1T.
You need to build a solid foundation first. I would reccomend getting some mini bands, I use them for stretching and band good mornings. Read the 8 keys by Dave Tate and follow that program as closely as you can.
