Mockery.
The Devil (the archetype for psychopath, whether you consider it to be real or a manifestation of worst fears) cannot stand to be mocked.
They are very insecure people. It’s easy to do.

Ironically enough, this seems to go for religious fanatics as well.
Meaning that very religious people have something in common with both crazy people and the devil.

Psychopaths often find home in any given religion. “Religion is the first refuge of a scoundrel,” to paraphrase Mark Twain, I think.
That said, truly adherent people (of most religions, excepting Islam for theological reasons related to their beliefs regarding treatment of non-believers) generally shrug off mockery. It’s the ones that are insecure in their religion that cannot handle being mocked.

It was Samuel Johnson, who said that patriotism was the last refuge of the scoundrel.
Another group that doesn’t like to be mocked very much.
Agreed.

Sure, but it’s true of zealots in general, whether religious or anti-religious. On my chicks’ board they’re arguing about public prayer. Apparently someone’s dinner was “ruined” by “assholes” who stood and held hands to deliver a “long loud prayer.” My correspondent felt justified in offering a loud, hostile response, which included clapping. In my opinion, she was the greater asshole, and I don’t identify as religious or have a dog in that particular race.
Fake. He probably just Netflixed a whole season of Dexter. And yes he is seeking attention at the maximum level. No one with a full life would take time out of their day to do Psycopath Q and As. He’s just lonely. Probably created this facade to cover up other deep rooted issues.

Shouting down the religious is the new “hip” counter culture. Which means, in a couple of years, being religious will be the new “hip” counter culture.
And so goes the human experience…
It’s hilarious, and pathetic, but hilarious none the less.

If your contention is that irreligious people can be just as great (if not greater) assholes than religious ones, you’ll get no argument from me.
But Ruff and I were talking about people who can’t stand being mocked (religious fanatics, psychopaths, patriots, the devil…), not necessarily about the people who do the mocking.

Rule 5 baby, rule 5.
In a book dedicated to Satan no less.
Holy crap. Is it not possible for a thread to go more than a couple of pages before it becomes about religion/anti-religion? Dang.

It’s the new thing man. Back in the 50’s it was hating black people, then it was hating anyone proud of America in the 60’s-1979. 80s-98 it was hating the gay people. 98-2008 it was hating republicans and Muslims. Now it’s hating religious people.
We’re people. We need to hate on, shout down, and generally shun anyone that is different. And watchout when we go from the shunned to accepted, because we’ll do what was done to us, ten fold, unto others.

It’s a thread about insanity. It was inevitable.

None. In fact your right to do so is codified by the amendment directly proceeding the one you referenced.

S’pose so. I just came over from SM’s women over 35 aren’t attractive thread, which had gone the same way.

We live in a nation of the perpetually offended. Someone is always offended, and therefore needs to see the offender destroyed in order to regain their sense of self worth.
MLKJr wouldn’t even have a voice in today’s world, he was a fan of that Jesus fellow. We’ve come to a sad, sad crossroads.
But, speaking of crossroads
One of my childhood favorites. Must have watched it 300+ times.

Radical Atheists, or devoutly anti-fundamentalist-Christian, which are what I more often encounter, are equally sensitive in my experience. Just another kind of fanaticism.
Perhaps I wasn’t clear - my acquaintance was convinced that her atrocious behavior was acceptable because it was in support of disallowing the religious to get away with what she considered an uninvited and ostentatious display of religiosity, the “inflicting” of beliefs on non-believers. As the conversation progressed sensitivity on her part was quite apparent. She was expecting agreement from our skewing-Liberal, highly educated group of professional women, and she got it, from some of them. But also some strong censure.
It wasn’t a matter of simply being irreligious, it was a strong display of her own deeply-held beliefs, which I posit are their own religion given her willingness to go to war over them.
