He was great as the Priceline negotiator though. You gotta give him that.

I love that character!
Shatner’s self-deprication is admirable.

Except for Roland Kickinger.

The Rock is far superior to Arnold as an actor.

Agreed. The Rock’s line delivery is excellent (apparently he used to kick ass in college debates)…Arnie, though, is something else:
By rights he should never have had an acting career after this ^. They certainly didn’t hire him for his acting. Come to think of it, I don’t think Arnie was ever hired for his acting. It’s no coincidence that Arnie’s best movies tap into his natural sense of humor and exaggerate his physical prowess, very often both at once: he makes his grand entrance in Commando carrying a fucking tree…
Arnie has said that he can’t play on his image as much as he used to, so it’ll be interesting to see how his screen persona moves with the times.

I thought Momoa did the best he could under the circumstances. They must have hired Edward Scissorhands to edit it though. There were some serious continuity issues, which for a movie of that size screamed “damage limitation!”.
As REH adaps go, I much preferred Solomon Kane. It’s one of those movies that gets away with being corny. Great central performance from James Purefoy as Kane.
Momoa wasn’t the problem in the Conan reboot; that goes to the director, script writer and probably other people. He wasn’t great, but he wasn’t the problem.
I wish vin disel still made good movies ![]()

Riddick out next year.
you know i hope that he’s king for the new conan reboot, might be worth while…
arnold may not be the best actor, but often thought he was just having fun…
as for stallone, his acting was good in nighthawks and copland, both movies are under rated
and good to watch.
the rock is possibly the best actor of the bunch for the types of movies made. though vin desiel
is a decent actor when not doing outright action flicks, has some range.
do look forward for another riddick movie.
not to get off topic, how heavy was stallone in the last rambo? he was huge and a freakining
bull. i think he he may be walking around 220-230lbs and also of th Ependables as well

The new Conan isn’t a reboot; it’s a direct sequel to Conan the Destroyer. Remember the end scene where Conan “at last found his kingdom and wore his crown upon a troubled brow”? That’s the basis for the new movie.
The idea’s been kicking around Hollywood for years: Arnie was asked to do it before moving into politics but he declined. He’s also still developing that Twins sequel with Danny D and Eddie Murphy as the third Benedict brother.
May as well complete the trifecta by doing a new Predator movie…he seems less resistant to the idea of reliving past glories now and I’ve read some very interesting stories about why he didn’t play Dutch again. He was set to appear in Predator 2, but one of the producers said that the deal broke down over $250 grand.
A cliff hanger ending for Predators with Dutch arriving on a Predator ship was vetoed for reasons unknown - probably Arnie’s availbility (or lack of it ) was key.
Larry Fishburne’s crazed loner in Predators was originally written for Danny Glover to reprise his role as Lt. Harrigan. Maybe a Harrigan/ Dutch team-up will happen yet.
seen photos of arnold recently… wow!! looks very fat and tubby… he better hit the drugs like he did in his hey days…

Everything you just said is pure nerd gold.
The idea of of the Dutch cliff hanger on Predators is just awesome.
Having read the original Conan books and being a huge fan of them, in my opinion Momoa portrayed a much more convincing Conan than Arnold ever did. Yes Arnold’s movie was fun but it really didn’t portray Conan how he is portrayed in the books. Conan wasn’t just some brute that swung his sword and killed everyone (although he was big and strong the books do introduce quite a few character more powerful than Conan), he was a very gifted tactician/strategist which led to him being in control of a quite a few men.
Never mind that the physical characteristics of Arnold do not match the vague descriptions of Conan in the books at all (besides his build) while Momoa is actually a pretty good fit.

I wanted Momoa to be bigger, just as I remembered Arnold in the first Conan movie. Even, in the comics, Conan was a massive brute. Mamoa’s built was too distracting for me. The guy was a beast in Game of Thrones. I have no idea why he slimmed down to fitness magazine model size for this role. The Rock would have made a better Conan I think.

I thik they were always planning on going metro with the new Conan: the final three were Momoa, Kellan Lutz (best known for the Twilight movies) and the tall brother from Supernatural.

That has the potential to be amazing. Now all they have to do is ditch Eddie Murphy and get someone that’s actually funny.

I’d imagine the movie would have been drastically different if Arnold had been in the sequel. That was his best role and movie IMO.
