Don’t say it unless you mean it!
I honestly feel a bit like I’m starting from the beginning again.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that I want to have achieved a physique like I have seen in magazines/action movies/etc at some point in my life, and the only way to do that is to go back to using steroids, which I’m doing.
So in a way I kind of feel a bit like it’s all a new start, except I’m older, wiser, and much more fucked up by injuries than when I first started out.
I’m kinda done getting bigger (for now), but just getting started getting stronger.
My ideal physique would be the same weight I am now, but leaner. I’m 185-190 now, and wouldn’t mind being a lean 190 and just water cut or gradually cut down to 181 or the USAPL equivalent.
I’m done getting bigger (never really tried to get big, was fat as a kid), and likely done getting stronger. This is due to age (mid-40’s) more so than lack of desire. I still compete in Strongman, so the need to retain strength, speed, and certain skills, are still very important. But my DEXA scans have kind of stalled out, and I’m starting to lose a little ground from a body composition standpoint… but not by much.
Part of me is encouraged that I’m holding the strength/muscle I am, but the kid in me expects improvement dammit!
I’m 50. Training and competing in powerlifting now for 4 years. Went from 174 an 18% bodyfat (DEXA scan) to 215 and 21% body fat. I need to lean out a bit and get down to 205ish, which would put me back to 18% or so and allow me to easily compete at 198. I’m happy with my size at 5’9" but I want more strength.
A 600 lb pull, 525+ lb squat and 315 bench are my longer term goals and hope to hit them before age-related decline catches up with me.
If I reached this point I would just make other goals, while maintaining my strength/size for the most part. So basically maintaining + doing other goals = same amount of gym time as I’ve always done. It’s not like I reach my peak strength and drop half my workouts because I’m “done”
Some other things to work on
- Cardio/endurance/conditioning
- Lower bodyfat %
- Other lifts, squat/DL variations, pullups, olympic lifts
- Bodyweight stuff, muscle ups for example
- Flexability
- Crossfit? Maybe covers a lot of the above
That’s a lot of stuff actually, sounds more time consuming than just strength/size if you think about it.
im in the club…
I can’t get significantly bigger nor leaner anymore, not without steroids, so I’m cool focusing only on getting stronger. Whether that’s adding a pound of lean mass or not in the process I couldn’t care less.
My problem is, I’m already so massive and incredibly strong that I just don’t know if it’s humanly possible to get any stronger/bigger. #MyWorldProblems
If I keep doing these CrossFit WODs then I might be done with everything soon. I almost miss running.
