Are You A Beginner II

Props to the best thread.

One more quick beginner note:

A common problem with beginners is that they don’t have GOALS.

I see guys come in for two, three weeks, hit the bench, do some curls, and maybe hit the exerbike, and they all burn out because they’re not seeing progress. The problem was that they didn’t define what it was that they wanted in the first place.

Goals are what keep you in the gym. They’re more important than any specific nutrition or lifting plan, because they keep you coming back for more. Later, you’ll be in the habit of hitting the gym, and you won’t have to rely on them quite as much, but MAKE SURE you have goals for the first six months.

And on that topic:

Thanks, it’s good to be back.

I miss posters like Thunder, Tampa Terry, Patricia, Joel Marion, and Cupcake. That whole Dan “quote 'em if you got 'em” McVicker thing started out as a rip off of ‘cake. I think if you’re a newbie, you could do worse than to read those guys’ posts. Use the search feature and dig through the olden days. Tampa Terry is especially helpful for newbies to read.

Phill was there, and he’s got a pretty good archive, too.

Check it out! It’s better than some of the posts that are being blathered around right now.

Yeas Cupcake was a riot. Guy was a wealth of knowledge at most times and a great example of Brain attached to Brawn. He would consistantly spout peotry, theory writing etc, off the top of his head. Plus it was seemingly more of a Family if you will. I mean cake when my mother went will express mailed here a whole Case of various Gourmet Coffees. Sure we all disagreed at times, and had arguements, but for the most part it worked out and everyone gained. And damn we had some Knowledge and FUN. I learned a TON from all the above. But there were also bad times Bickering and people getting there panties in a bucnh over nothing. Just the way people are.

This now isnt all bad either. It is actually very much better in a number of ways with all the advancement. Prime time, Daily articles, etc. The forum, yes, has seen better days. Much going around now is simply pissing matches and bad uneduacted info., it can be discouraging at times but hey all we can do it keep pecking away. Hey Look your back, Joel just had an article and posted a few posts. Who Knows waht the future holds.

I have no idea why the hell many people left, just resistant to change I suppose. As they get used to it all we can do is hope they make there way back. It can be the same old place if./when they do. All wrapped up in a BAD ASS new package. Just imagine the amount of Knowledge all the newbies that have came could gain from that.

Good idea about recomending looking up post by Cake, TT etc… They can read up, get familiar, use that info and the new bass ass info. as well. Then Hopefully all the old dogs some day will come home. Well most of them Some were a bit stinky and flea bitten. LOL

Anyway thanks for dragging up good ole memories. Good to remeber the past but we got to enbrace Change and the future.

Once again great to have you back and if you run into all those peeps give em a shout. Tell em dont be strangers, pipe up every now and again.

I agree: the website/magazine itself keeps getting better and better, and that attracts more newbies and beginners and trolls and whatnot to the forums. That makes it all the more important that people who know what’s going on post, especially on the beginner threads.

An avid lurker for the past five months, I just wanted to say thanks to vroom and this community for the information in both this thread and the site in general. Someone elsewhere mentioned the progression of workout newbies to progress from places like the mens health forum to jp fitness and this site, and as someone who is now hooked on the gains lifting, the information here has been a tremendous eye opener.

Thanks to everybody!

Alright, I gotta know… I keep seeing “tube steak boogie,” but I have no idea what it means. I’m willing to bet it’s funny, and I want in on the joke, but my search option doesn’t work for some reason. Can someone point me in the right direction please?
