Are martial arts worth a shit?

Ok wait, call me a retard but I thought that rap song was a comercial for “Soul Glow”. Anyway, the best techinique for hyper intimidation in the US would be to start twirling common items like chairs around or if you can quickly find a ladder and start jumping through it and twirling it around, this also seems to work with shopping carts, thank you Jackie Chan! I now carry a chair with me whenever I go for a walk in the bad side of town, nobody even thinks about messing with me.

Anybody know Frank Dux?

Hanshi Frank Dux founded Dux Ryu, the first American system of ninjitsu. Although Dux Ryu is rooted in traditional ninjitsu, experience in no-holds-barred competitions forced Hanshi Dux to adapt, improvise, and change his fighting in order to dominate in his fights. His system of triangulation and angles‑of‑attack helped him defeat traditional linear or circular movement styles. Hanshi Dux was the 1975‑1980 World Heavy Weight Kumite champion and is the holder of 16 world speed and power records. He is a qualified instructor in 22 disciplines and was the inspiration for the movie “Bloodsport.” </font color>In 1993, he became a “Knight Chevalier” in the Miami Police Hall of Fame; he has also been inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Hanshi Dux is a co-author/ contributor for the U.S. Navy Seals Special Operations Manual.

Food for thought…have no idea how it stands in a street fight.

DanC:

Anyone who’s ever watched “Blood Sport” knows exactly who Frank Dux is.

:-))

PAT: Yes, I know, but it has been a while since the flick was filmed (1987), so you have to have a ‘certain’ age to know it, which may not be the case for everybody here… ;0)

From being in real world situations, I know that in a common joe schmoe fight, the guy who throws the first punch wins. In a martial arts guy vs joe schmoe fight, if joe schmoe throws the first punch he is DEAD because a good martial artist knows that the optimal way to beat the fuck out of someone is to let them throw the first punch, block to remove balance and then move in really close for a devestating blow. I have seen this Korean dude at a house party get into a fight with some fat dumb ass and the fat guy threw the first punch, afterwards the korean guy did a ridiculously fast front snapping kick and the fat guy couldn’t breathe for at least 30 seconds. Fight over, one of the coolest things I’ve seen here.

DanC - A few years ago, Frank wrote his autobiography. Hmmmmm. The stuff he wrote was … interesting. Kind of made you wonder about some of his other claims. Yes, he does hold a number of speed/power records, but they tend to be in catagories that no one else has bothered to do, so he’s the only contestant! Also, no one can seem to verify his claims on his training/experience, and his claims to certain army combat experience have been disproven by the official record. Could be that he’s a member of the super-secret tough guy club, but if that’s so, why have a movie and autobiography?

Hokuto-ShinKen!!!

Thanks Paul, did not know that one.

Kind of bizarre that what I got was from a dojo where he contributes. One would expect some honesty…but then again, maybe he needs that sales pitch (or the word-of-mouth publicity it gives, like I precisely do now ehehe).

Dan C- I think that the title of the book was “Stolen Valor” can’t remember the author, but it’s basically arguing that Vietnam vets were just as brave as their brothers-in-arms from earlier wars, but media propoganda made it look otherwise. Anyways, Frank Dux is listed in there, and even though it was a brief write up, it’s kind of eye-opening. And like I already said, some of the claims he makes in his auto-biography stretch credibility to the breaking point, especially for anyone with knowledge of the military beuracracy.

Almost any serious martial artist in this are I know of carries a gun. what does that tell you. I have minimal martial arts training, but a high level of training in awareness and guns. Awareness keeps you out of trouble or warns you that it’s coming.

IRONDOC: Maybe they learned something from the Indiana Jones` memorable scene where he kills the swordmaster from afar. ;0) (No disrespect for martial artists out there)
