Are "Gurus" Really Necessary?

Do you find that Bodybuilders are prone to switch coaches half way through a prep? Like if Coach A’s advice stops working they go with coach B?

Seems like in a calorie depleted, overcardio-ed state they may start to make funny decisions.

Believe it or not, there are guys who follow NONE of their “coach’s” guidance and NONE of the “coach’s” they go to after ignoring the first one, or the second, or the third…

If there’s no coach, there’s no one to blame if things go wrong.

That you didn’t follow instructions is just a detail.

I think some professional bodybuilders get coaches so they dont have to worry so much about finding there “optimal” way of training. It takes years and years to find what works and what doesnt so getting a coach to help would be quite useful/shave off some mental workload id imagine. (providing it’s a decent coach you hire)

Staying ahead of the drug game
Offloading the risk of getting caught

Other stuff.

That’s Exactly why I got coached by @The_Mighty_Stu.

I think a lot of bodybuilders, especially in the spot light IFbB pros need to feel that someone else is accountable because otherwise they would all be Mr Olympia. The flip side to having someone to blame,as was mentioned, is how much time you can save by working with someone who has already done it, helped plenty of other competitors, and basically already has a damn good idea of what’s involved.

Of course even in the best case scenarios nothing is every guaranteed 100%. When I worked with Rob for his first show, we did well, but we both knew he could have been a bit better. It was undoubtedly the best he had ever look at that point, and we were both proud, but we dealt with a number of curve balls as we learned his body in the time frame we had to work within. Luckily, Rob didn’t go running to another coach for his contests the next year, as I was able to apply a lot of thing I had learned the year before and as such he came in looking amazing. You don’t see this a lot with the coach hopping many ifbb guys seem to do.

Moral: be like Rob -lol

Lol thanks Brad.

When someone as educated and informed as Brad realizes the benefits of working with someone more experienced far outweigh the negatives you undesyand it’s not an ego thing.

I always look for a Guru when I’m training.

It helps motivate me. Also there is so much information out there and a few tried and true methods that actually work. Sometimes It’s easy for me to ping pong between different philosophies so it’s nice to have someone to tell me to shut the fuck up and do it “this way. Only this way unless I tell you differently”. It works for me.
