Anyone Like Bill Maher?

I just got the “I’m Swiss” stand up, and it’s pretty amazing. I enjoy Real Time as well, and I’m wondering if any of the T-guys here is a fan of him.

Yep. Bill, David Cross, etc.
A literate counterpoint to Larry theaCable Guy, et al.

You won’t find much love here on T-mag though.

“Freedom dust” LOL

I like him.

I do not agree with him on everything and I do not think he is a very deep thinker, but compared to all those other streamlined wankers on TV…

Yeah, I do agree with him on everything, but he is funny most of the time. Sometimes I think he tries too hard on some of his jokes though.

Same here; I like him…

(I LOVE “New Rules!” and his ending monologue)…

I don’t agree with everything…and he can sometimes come across as a little “whiny”; but he will HAVE to go down as one of the best Political Satirist of all Time.

“NEW RULES”!!!

Mufasa

Not that much. He has his moments where he is very funny, but the rest of the time he comes off as a pompous ass.

Haha. Indeed, I do believe though, that he should quit that vegan diet if he’s still on it, and eat some meat. He does look like Jew in a concentration camp. I do find him a bit more ballsier than Jon Stewart/Colbert. Probably because he’s on HBO rather than Comedy Central.

Yeah, Bill Maher is great! I used to like Dennis Miller alot, but he is too much of a conservative. This ongoing Iraq war has swayed me over to Bill Maher’s humor.

Dennis Miller still has a show? This is news to me haha.

I like Bill Maher, but I lost a lot of respect for him when he was praising Israel for bombing the citizens of Lebanon. I have not tuned in to his show since then.

Mmmm, that did piss me off as well. A bit of a double standard, but then again, no one is perfect in their ideals.

He’s just a smartass dope. I saw Ted Nugent make him look like a fool on his old show. If you can think quick on your feet and are quick with a comeback, he runs out of stuff real quick.

Maher is decent – in terms of “T” he represents a lot of good things: frankness about sex, sarcasm re: our political and moral hangups.

And he was right about suicide terrorists being more fearless than Air Force flyboys dropping laser-guided bombs from 20,000 feet. However, our Army jarheads in Fallujah and Anbar Province are now proving equal in fortitude.

The public American sphere is profoundly hypocritical – deeply affected by marketing theories and bullshit talking points – and sadly only comedians point out this basic hypocrisy. Maher is one of the most successful pop commentators on politics, along with the Comedy Central duo, Colbert and Jon Stewart.

I’ve always been a fan, I agree on him about most issues and think Real Time is going great, apart from some of the more liberal guests on there. Bill Maher is more Libertarian minded than anything else.

And compared to this - YouTube yes.

I like Bill Maher

Agree with schencka:

Again…I don’t always AGREE with him…but he as often made me really THINK about a person, event or topic, rather than just accept the “Party” or “Politically Correct” line.

Mufasa

Bill Maher is my hero. Love that guy.

schenka:

“Army Jarheads” is misnomer!

(Now…correct that like you’ve got a PURPOSE, mister!)

Our Soldiers and Marines are certainly showing that they have what it takes…

Mufasa

Schencka!

Well said!

I don’t know him at all, but I can’t stand his commercial. It’s played almost back to back, and I see it all the time. At first I didn’t mind it, but it’s like back when they overplayed “ice ice baby” and it stopped being the great song it originally was.
