Anyone Here Go to Cornell?

I’ll be a freshman at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, this fall. I’m just wondering if we have any members here that go there–it’d be cool to find someone to lift with.

Thanks

Ha! Yeah, I’m goin. Freshmen as well.

School of Human Ecology. Nutrition major. You?

Nice to know a fellow T-Nation member will be attending.

I believe this man might have went to Cornell

I’m going to be in Arts and Sciences. Not sure what I’ll be majoring in, I’d guess right now English, Poli Sci, or history.

I can’t wait for august, Cornell is gonna be awesome. Except for the weather. Going from South Florida to Upstate NY is going to a rude awakening.

I’m from LI (Long Island) so I’ll be alright. The campus is great, as is the food. You’ve visited?

He went to a certain Ivy League school.

Do they still have a bar called “The Pines”?

Ithaca is a crazy college town.

It’s like 99% restaurants and bars, and is surrounded by a community college, Ithica College, and Cornell Uni (which has upwards of 14,000 kids).

It’s gonna be awesome.

Nah, haven’t visited yet. I did visit and subsequently get into UChicago. Total different setting than cornell, haha.

Did you go to Cornell days?

Nope, just a regular visit. Campus is really nice though, and the town is ridiculous (so many restaurants). The dorms are all really nice as well.

yeah, my friend was in the area to visit SUNY-Binghamton, and stopped by Cornell/Ithaca. Said the same thing–nice restaurants, beautiful campus, great college town, ect.

Also, the fact that they have have four gyms will be cool. Hopefully should be a step up from my shitty commercial gym:

That picture… awesome…

You have a roommate yet?

“More like ‘CorNOT University’”

Sorry, I saw someone brought up Andrew Brenard, so I had to quote.

I have no idea about my rooming situation, we don’t get our housing assignments for another month or 2. I requested a single, though. The risk to reward ratio of getting a double doesn’t pan out, IMO.

Biological Sciences major in CALS…transferred here during my sophormore year and about to finish my junior year…love it here…let me know if you guys have any questions about anything

Are the gyms accessible to anyone, or are some of them limited to athletes, ect? Are they limited by time? How much does access cost, and do you pay for each gym individually or all of them as a whole?

Do you ever go into Ithica or do you not bother?
How’s the party situation in Ithica (I’ve heard good things)?

Do the proffs speak good English?

Ever watched a sprint football game?

Er… Thanks :P. Very nice to know multiple T-people are @ Cornell.

The only good non-varsity weight room on campus is in teagle hall…they have multiple OL platforms, benches, bumpers, and chalk…you pay for all the gyms at once…you can find out more by going on to the cornell fitness centers website.

The part of Ithaca near Cornell is called collegetown…there are several good bars here, some restaurants and convenient stores…the greater Ithaca downtown is the more commercial area.

So far I’ve only had one prof who didn’t speak english well…i suppose you will only run into a problem with this if you are an engineer or a science/math student.

I have watched several sprint games as a bunch of my fraternity brothers are on the team…

if you need to know anything else don’t hesitate to ask.

Ah, Cornell. In one sense it’s hard for me to believe that I graduated two years ago, because it feels like a much shorter time than that. But then again, they keep adding new stuff all the time (like that new Noyes Community Center, which was where that pic was taken) which makes me feel old.

I never did get a chance to work out in the gym at Noyes because I graduated before it was finished, but the downstairs part of Teagle is always a fun place to train (the upstairs part has the cardio machines and the stretching mats but the downstairs part is where they have the free weights, with tons of racks, platforms, and bumper plates). Just like with any college gym though you’ll always find the frat boys doing their squat rack curls and 21s and all that other stupid crap, but you will find some strong people at Teagle and that always makes the experience more enjoyable.

Gym memberships are not included in tuition, though; you will have to pay. Since you guys post here I’m sure you would be willing to pay to train at a quality gym, but at Cornell people always bitch about the fact that you have to pay extra to use the gyms and I want to smack them.

And for anyone who’s going to be taking NS 115, most Cornell people love Dr. Levitsky because he’s an entertaining guy, but he will say some stuff that will make you shake your head. Don’t get into a debate with him. Trust me on this one.

And for those of you who don’t have a Wegman’s in your area, you’ll be in for a treat.

Ah, those were some great times . . .

OK, a question for you guys:

Is Cornell THAT hard? By the way people talk about it, you would think that absolutely no one gets A’s, and that grades are ridiculously deflated(as opposed to harvard/yale/ect, where the hardest part is getting in).

Is it possible to get more-than-decent grades at Cornell?

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier.

You can definitely pull off A’s here, you just have to put in the work. Of course some majors are more difficult than others, life/physical sciences and engineering probably being the hardest, social sciences being in the middle, and some of the speciality majors like business, hotel admin, and ILR being the easiest. IMO, the biggest obstacle to doing well here isn’t the difficulty of the coursework itself, but the ability effectively manage your time.
