Anyone Else Suddenly Start Being Religious After 30?

Psalm 82, KJV version:

lmao you realise youve completely misunderstood the language, that is saying you BELONG TO GOD lol.

Here is the simple text missing from most all discussion about God allowing death.

Gen 8:22, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

The LORD is the Lord of the harvest. You plant seeds of death, seedtime and harvest are as in effect as much as cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night. God told Noah this the day he stepped off the ark.

Gal 6:7, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth: that shall he also rep.”

Before you argue read any exegises on the subject, this is why laymen shouldn’t read translations of scripture and come to their “own understanding”.

That is an interpretation, rather than what it literally says.

Who told you to read it that way? What Christian ever read it that way? lol?

The English language.

Many Biblical scholars. This isn’t a fringe belief.

There are other stories in the Bible about people using powers from other supernatural entities. Aaron’s snake staff eating the snake staffs of the Egyptian priests is an example. Those priests who worshiped other gods had power to turn their staffs into snakes, Aaron’s snake eats those snakes showing that Yahweh is more powerful than their gods.

Yes it is, its beyond fringe, literally only weirdo 5% black gangsters from NY think this lol.

It may be (likely is) fringe with most Christians (most of whom haven’t read much of the Bible).

According to Stanford university most Old Testament scholars accept it.

We may have to agree to disagree on this one though.

Show me a singly old testament scholar who has this view of it. One.

You guys take all of this from some book some guy decided to write.

Here is an article that discusses Biblical scholars that don’t believe the Old Testament is monotheistic.

I don’t know why this matters so much. One can still be a Christian and acknowledge that it is accepted by most of the scholars that the Old Testament isn’t monotheistic, and acknowledged other less powerful gods.

Again my brother, please show me a source where an old testament scholar says that this is referring to people as Gods ie dieties. You are linking me a source where atheist scholars are saying that.

Yes a Muslim for example will say the bible is polytheistic because it says jesus a man, was God. I am saying show me a scholar who says that this is referring to actual Gods. It isn’t and you can’t find a single scholar from the christian tradition who says this.

There might be some confusion. I am not arguing that. That people are gods or deities in the OT.

I am saying that most scholars of the Old Testament believe the text indicates that gods other than Yahweh exist, but were lesser gods than Yahweh. Not that they were people. These would be gods like Baal for example.

Yes but the bible refers to all other Gods as false. Ie id you follow your desires to commit adultery you are taking your desires as your gods. If you cheat in business you are taking money as a God. If you put income before family we are told they use their grafiting donkey who carries loads as a god.

It isn’t meant as a diety, its something you worship, money, status, desire etc. This is completely different than you implied and I see people try and mock Christianity taking it out of context all the time. No Christian thinks the bible says others deities exist.

One would that would be incontrovertable, given all of the smiting and smoting that ensued, but here we are!

You’ve been playing that no true scotsman card a little to hard bro.

Brothe whole fucking point is that the calf is a false idol its not a real God. Also thats not what true scotsman means. If I call something a false God its not a god by definition. This isn’t exactly rocket science. The reason its not to be worshipped is because it isn’t a God it is a FALSE GOD. Mind blowing misunderstanding of the english language her my brother.

Um, Im referring to the “No christian
” etc. But yeah. Not rocket surgery.

The entire concept and text is predicated upon belief. It is not whether or not the calf was a god. It is that the calf was representative of a belief in another god. Actually a couple depending on time and location.

You’re more right about that than you realize.

Pride goeth before the fall. (To be clear, im not talking about the season)

If you find one, he isn’t knowledgeable, as you have written “Gods.” Lower case is an entirely different.

Why ask what some scholar thinks when God gave you the word of God. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God
” (2 Tim 2:15)

Compare scripture with scripture. Jesus mentioned this:

John 10:30 "I and my Father are one.

31Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

32Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

33The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

34Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?"

Might those Jews have seen that Jesus was referring to the condemnation in Psalm 82?

It is a difficult verse in that men are referred to as gods. But it is lower case gods, and definitely not deity.

Copying the scripture was all in red letter. It was not my intention. I will not use that source in the future. ( I am on the trailing edge of technology)
