You are working backwards from the position. If God exists then the way to know God is through NON EMPIRICAL MEANS as this is a METAPHYSICAL QUESTION.
How do you know raping a toddler cooking and eating them is wrong? Not through fucking science mate as that is not relevant to ethical proofs. Fuck me this is like pulling teeth lad.
It seems clear that OP has made this thread to focus viewing the existence of God via philosophical discussion.
Allow me to present a different perspective. My little Bible texting group has moved to a somewhat philosophical discussion, which we donât do in most all cases. One of our group has been reading âThe Knowledge of the Holyâ by A W Tozer. He expresses this more concisely than I could:
"The believing man does not ponder the word and arrive at faith by a process of reasoning, nor does he seek confirmation of faith from philosophy or science, His cry is, âO earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD. Yea, let God be true, but every man a liar.â (from Micah 6:9 and Romans 3:4)
@RoidMonkei Iâm done with this. You have all the answers. You already âknowâ youâre right. No room for me in this discussion. Hope no hard feelings.
How do we prove metaphysical claims if you need empirical evidence which there canât be any for. How do I prove to you it is immoral to rape and eat a toddler? Without scientific evidence of such morality as a physical thing lol.
You canât because it isnât right or wrong. It just is. Society has morally justified burning toddlers for centuries. Now we chose not to because society has evolved. In the future it may by morally wrong to have a pet. Society will decide through social contract.
Bro you sound exactly like me before I spent 5 years studying philosophy after being stabbed and bed ridden. I get it. No hard feelings at all. Obviously you canât see intention behind a screen but this is simply how we debate. Unless mothers get brought up i assume we are both talking without animostiy even if it gets fiery.
What are those? The Bible (especially the old testament) indicates the existence of other gods (polytheism). Yahweh was supposed to be the most powerful, but not the only one.
No ti doesnât. It literally calls out worship besides God as idolatry. A God in the linguistic sesne is anything you worship, so money, power, desires etc. But the bible does not âpoint toâ other dieties as existing in reality.
No this is not what the bible claims at all. Just like Islam and Judaism it says people corrupted the message of monotheism or tawheed and that they established gods below god. For exampke the mushrikeen in Makkah worshipped Allah as the strongest God but also worshipped Lutt and Uzaah etc as lesser Gods.
The bible and the Qurâan make arguments that God can only be one and if Gods existed their would fight to strip one of their power, thus making them vulnerable etc and thus not all powerful.
Can you show me where the bible claims other actual deities exist please?
No because that is begging the question, why is harming a human wrong? The only argument for someone who only believes in the physical world is feeling disgusted by it, but that isnât objective, for example sexual sadists would feel excited by it, so arguments from emotion arenât universala nd even if they were it wouldnât make those emotions valid.
Once I realised morality isnât at all rational it freaked me out.
A total of 2,821,364 deaths are specifically enumerated in scripture as either directly orchestrated by God, or carried out with his assistance or approval. Satan, on the other hand, notches up only 10 kills.
That statistic misses the mark based on the first half.
âApprovalâ is the operative word.
The LORD gave Satan the permission to take all from Job, but Jobâs life. It must be concluded that approval was made for Satan to kill those ten children of Job.
Job 1:12, âAnd the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine handâŠâ
Also the billions dead from the efforts of satan and his minions throughout all of human history. Bit of an odd thing he left out. And whatever God does by definition is moral etc as he is the arbiter of ultimate morality.
