Anyone been badly beaten up here

Of …?

Your mad fighting skills obviously. But some things just can’t be taught…

Oh… I stink at fighting. Go to the YMCA

Yeah your fighting skills

What? Do they teach street fighting there? Lol

Ya… real cheesy crap that will get you pummeled in an actual fight.

I somehow doubt that is the result he is looking for.

25 years of wrestling, 20 of BJJ and Muay Thai. Still pretty lousy.

Then mixed arts it is

BTW how is BJJ good in street fighting? Isn’t it mostly ground fighting?

Try not to cause too much trouble tonight. Will this be on duty or off duty shenanigans?

I await his response too, seeing as he’s a man about town. I’m made my thoughts clear. It’s great in certain situations,in others striking is so much better. As I was hoisting the equivalent of a large man overhead I meditated on the fact that even a highly skilled BJJ exponent can have his holds broken if the strength disparity is too great. Luckily the exponents here weight train as well as don’t put all their eggs in 1 basket. In certain situations, going to ground is an automatic loss. Guaranteed.

I’m off… I’ll be at my gf’s apartment making dinner

Highly effective if you can pull guard or get the take down

Surely you can stay out of trouble there.

At a certain level of Bjj experience… strength of an opponent means little. I train with a D1 lineman… he’s 100 pounds heavier, nearly 8inches taller… i dominate him. Positioning, technique, leverage

The bible bashers touched on it. Be chill. That will negate literally 99% of any situations developing beyond a mean mug and Why’d u do that for?. Usually fights start out of ego and worse case scenario, that can get you killed. Also being physically proficient. A strong guy with zero fighting skills can knock someone out with a bitch slap. Work at gym. It doesn’t look like your looking for hassles but the sheer thought of decent sized upper body is enough to deter problems. It’s a peace time activity where Ur kicking your own ass,but one of the side effects is you are now wearing a coat of armour. If you aren’t satiated, then pick something that suits you.

If you train at the right place, then dealing with strikes is part of the curriculum. Completely agree about learning striking. I trained Muay Thai and boxing until an eye issue ended any possibility of continuing. That said, Royce Gracie showed the world how effective bjj can be against trained strikers.

BJJ is most commonly thought of from the ground, and if you train at an IBJJF comp school, that’s an accurate assessment. Although, any good school will teach standup, takedowns, control positions and strike defense.

The first place I trained (2+ years) was a good blend between comp (IBJJF, ADCC) and combat (lot of former military/special forces types in DFW), then I moved out of state and was at an American bjj no-gi, before finally at a traditional school (only thing available). Had I only trained at the latter two schools, I would have no idea how to defense myself or have good takedown.
