I was just pondering today that since I’ve been on T, I’ve felt a lot better than I was feeling before – But I’m still not sure I feel 100% like my old self. I’m talking about T specifically related to sexual performance.
i.e. erections are better, but still aren’t as great as they were before running into health problems. Also having some premature issues, which were never a problem in the past – and seem clearly related to the lack of control not having a great erection comes with.
I’ve also noticed that spontaneous erections that used to come kissing, or going down on a woman are no longer something that can be counted on… They are now rare! It doesn’t matter where I am on my cycle (i.e. the 1st day after a T shot versus a week after, it doesn’t seem to matter…)
Any other guys dealing with this? Just soemthing to live with, or something that can be beat?

How long have you received TRT? What medication and dose?
If you had untreated hypogonadism for a long time, then it may take some time before you feel great again. That was the case for me. Seriously, although I can’t recall the exact amount of time, it took somewhere between 8 to 10 months to feel GREAT again. After one month, I felt “OK” and more energetic. For the next few months, I gradually started to feel like myself. But it really took some for normal sexual function and drive to come back. Actually, it lack of libido and ED were the last resolved symptoms. Weakness and fatigue were resolved before this. My doc gave me some Viagra after my first visit and him telling me, “I’ll give you some because it might take some for your erections to come back.”
Ksman – I appreciate your responses, and have read your stickies. You’re definitely a respected authority here, thanks for all you do! I need to get back and have my E2 checked again in the middle of my cycle as you suggested… Just haven’t done it yet.
Brick – thanks for your response man, this was helpful to me. I was not aware it can take so long for you to get back into the swing of things (I wonder why that is?!) – I’ve been on TRT for about 3 months now, so maybe I’ll continue to improve. I did start taking a multi-vitamin from GNC recently that seems to have helped me with my energy issues. Have been feel very sharp since starting that, along with my TRT.

One needs to look at other factors out side the varaibles that are currently been treated. Some times TRT helps some area, but other areas such as neurological, immune, and other endocrine hormones and thyroid, nutritoinal imbalance, as well as environmental toxins need to be properly evaluated to make TRT more effective. There also may be a emotional compenet or mental compenent that needs to be explored by examing people past history namely their child hood and teen years is where alot of information will tell how they are today. You may have to look at other hidden variables that go ut side the normal realm of traditional medicine. Depending on where you live lyme disease is showing up more and more in our patients that just do not feel right on TRT.
Lyme disease can really be hidden. This can really wear down ones adrenals and that can take a long time to recover from, even when everything else is good.
Yes and we are now running igenix testing which is catching it more and more then past lab test ran by quest and lab corp. Unless you recent exposure traditional labs are not sensitive to pick it up. I had a case of which we suspected lyme disease, but quest said negative although symptoms and my intuition was saying different. Once the proper test were ran, it was found that there were not just one but 3 different strains the patient had. He also had low adrenal reserve, low DHEA, low testosterone, and severe neurological symptoms.
Wow, interesting that you say Lyme disease, because the first symptom I had before my health went downhill was a rash that started on my cheek as 2 small bumps under the skin, and expanded to now be what my dermatologist calls atopic dermatitis. I found it bizarre that I had this rash break out, then got abdominal pain and a poor liver panel, and then found out my T was low awhile after. It’s clear to me that nobody is spending the right amount of time trying to figure out what the underlying issue is… They’ve been treating the symptoms (i.e. giving me facial creams, acting like my abdominal pain is my gallbladder, even though an ultrasound revealed no stones, giving my TRT shots… etc) – I will ask my doc to test me for Lyme disease next.
Hardasnails: What are the recoveries like when Lyme is treated with anti-biotics? Can you make some generalizations? When to patients first feel that something is better?
