Any Issue with a lot of Skim Milk?

Hi guys,

I’m 36 years old, 6’0", 185lbs, 20-24% bodyfat, trying to add some muscle (and maybe burn some fat in the process). Here is the diet that I’ve been doing for the last two weeks:

Breakfast (9:00 am)
2 cups whole milk
2 tablespoons flax seed
2 scoops protein powder
1 apple
Multi vitamin
Fish oil tabs

58g protein, 59g carbs, 26g fat, 755 calories

Snack (11:30am)
1 1/3 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1/3 cup oatmeal
1 1/3 scoop protein powder
1 tablespoon flax seed

43g protein, 45g carbs, 9g fat, 488 calories

Lunch (2:00pm)
240g chicken breast
1 cup basmati rice
1 banana
1 apple

62g protein, 105g carbs, 3g fat, 685 calories

Snack (4:30pm)
1 1/3 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1/3 cup oatmeal
1 1/3 scoop protein powder
1 tablespoon flax seed

43g protein, 45g carbs, 9g fat, 488 calories

Supper (7:00pm)
240g chicken breast
1.5 cups basmati rice
Green salad with assorted vegetables

63g protein, 73g carbs, 3g fat, 575 calories

Snack (9:30pm)
1 1/3 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1/3 cup oatmeal
1 1/3 scoop protein powder
1 tablespoon flax seed

43g protein, 45g carbs, 9g fat, 488 calories

Rough total: 312g protein, 372g carbs, 59g fat, 3430 calories

Do any of you see anything wrong with this diet? Is drinking 1.25 litres of milk a day a bad idea? I feel like I’ve been putting on a bit of fat and wonder if the milk might be the culprit. Any suggestions?

If you’re addind too much body fat, lowering calories a little could be a good idea and cutting on crappy carbohydrates source like milk ( about 80g of lactose in 1,5L) might be intelligent as well.

About your overall diet, why are you only eating 47g of fat? I’d personnaly cut the rice and replace it by healthy fat sources like avocados, nuts(pecans, walnuts and almond are pretty cheap in bulk), butter(yes!)…

hope this helps

There are 3 issues that I have with milk tho I will have it every now and then

1 - I have read that up to 75 % of people have a lactose intolerence, some may be mild but still if one has this problem consuming milk may raise cortisol levels or upset your stomach.

2 - Even people who can tolerate milk. Its not the best food for your digestive track.

3 - As alexchamp said the lactose. If I’m getting carbs I want good tasty ones! :p. Brow rice, yams and whole grains.

Your Diet looks decent, but if you want to lean up a bit and continue to eat this amount of calories (and continue to get stronger)I would drop the milk. After you get leaner you could throw it back in. But if you dropped your milk and replaced those calories with healthy fats in the form of fish oil, natty peanut butter, red meat…etc.

Again its your Call, I have no problem with Milk but it all depends on your Goals and how quickly you want to get there! good luck
