Any Fans of Women's Weightlifting?

I’m a fan. I think I like watching women’s weightlifting more than I like the men’s (though I enjoy both). Anybody got any cool pictures or videos?

I enjoy watching any talented athletes compete in their sport.

How much do those plates weigh? It usually doesn’t look like the bar is very loaded in Olympic lifting whereas in powerlifting, there’s tons of plates a side and the bar is bending.

My problem with womens weightlifting is that I have no perspective to judge them with. I mean, the form is typically good, and a number of the athletes are attractive, but when I look at the weight moved, I’m like…

That’s it?

It’s disappointing, for me at least. I look at these championship weights and think… I can snatch that.

So for me at least, it’s not that exciting. Still cool, but I’d rather watch the big boyz.

As with most weight class-based strength sports, it’s a hell of a lot more impressive when you factor in their body weight. The fact that a woman less than half your weight outsnatches you (ref. Yang Xia, CHN, 100kg snatch) is pretty unbelievable.

giggity giggity goo! more videos please, k thanks.

For a moment there, I was going to defend myself and my position.

And then I realized who was talking.

Good call.

Shoot, Kiplemet outsnatches me. Kiplemet! Let me see if I can find a graphic demonstration of where I’m coming from…

“Cao Lei, of China, lifts 154 kilograms in the clean and jerk to break the Olympic record and win the gold medal of the women’s 75 kg in the weightlifting competition at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.”

Is THIS more impressive?

Or THIS

And with that, I’ll move my ass outta this thread and make room for more pics of chicks and their snatch.

Jolie Gentry, the 2007 Crossfit Games Champion. I think crossfit is not an ideal workout, but it produces some athletic women.

I’m going to kind of agree with you on this. I was having a similar conversation with a male SHW PL this morning. It’s the reverse for me. I tend to watch what the women are doing very closely and follow their numbers in their meets particularly around my weight class because it is relevant to me and I have a better perspective from which to judge it.

The men’s I like to watch because it’s fun entertainment but doesn’t really feel all that connected to me.

His perspective is women’s is fun entertainment, men’s SHW is relevent to him.

I LOVE watching women’s OLyW. (except for the super heavy, and the ones that cycled big time)

The excellent technique, beauty and sexiness is just awesome.

I actually like watching women’s more than men. Especially when you get a chance to train with some of them.

I’m the same way with powerlifting. I like the big guys simply because they’re huge and they move a lot of weight, but in general, I have a hard time judging what is good for men. It’s a lot easier for me to judge the women.
