Anti-Hip Hop

Why should I waste my time listening to a style of music that I don’t enjoy, when there are others that I do.

For the same reason you would waste your time discussing and degrading a style of music that you claim you don’t enjoy.
I’m not degrading, I just don’t like it for certain reasons. It’s called a subjective opinion. I’m explaining why I don’t enjoy it by and large, though i do listen to some.

I’m 43 years old. I don’t like most new rock. I think it’s often a poor copy of older stuff. I don’t like new country. It’s light pop with a twang to me. The fact that I also have my own practice and a family doesn’t leave me with the time to explore all musical genres as do a young college or single guy. Sometimes you have to drive a kid to a guitar lesson or basketball practice.

At my age I know what I like and don’t want to waste time on stuff I don’t like.

As for hip hop that I enjoy, for me DMX is at the top. Whether you like him or not or don’t agree with me, doesn’t matter since it’s my personal favorite. I also have a bunch of NWA, Eminem, Grandmaster Flash, Ja Rule, and Snoop.

I gave my reasons why I don’t put it on the same level of other music. I personally don’t think what these artists did is as significant as Led Zeppelin, Clapton, and the old blues guys. But the fact that I don’t enjoy it as much doesn’t mean much in the big picture. If you like it, fine. As long as it gives you enjoyment, good for you.

I’m sure there are some hip hop fans that like some classic rock songs but prefer hip hop for certain reasons. I don’t look at that as degrading another musical style, just stating preference.

Sorry this is very off topic but… speaking of “Blinded by the Light” the part where he says “revved up like a deuce, another roamer in the night”

What does that mean? …Well I heard my boss talking about how when he was a cop in California that they sometimes called drunks “deuces” so is he saying revved up like a drunk, another roamer in the night? It makes sense…

I only ask because my friends have always wondered what the hell he was talking about. Great song btw, oh and I like hip-hop also… lol

I think it is “another RUNNER in the night”

Deuce refers to a Ford Deuce Coupe.

Dear Rhythmless Nation,

Don’t hate because you can’t find the beat or can’t dance.
This is the post above mine. Obviously the insinuation is that white people don’t have rhythm and thus don’t like hip hop (even though most hip hop beats are not that complex). My point is that if white people are so rhythm challenged then how does one explain the sampling of songs by white artists.

 1. Don’t let a great thread die!

 2. Hip-Hop was invented by Satan!! I’ve got proof!!

Just kidding, just kidding!! :>

Well, I am not the only one who thinks it sounds more like “wrapped up like a douche another roller in the night”, am I?

I always wonder what he is trying to say too.
