Meh, people tend to hate on things that they fear. And what is there to fear? I see PF as a real cash cow, many sign up and stop going or hardly going after a while… and they get that $10 taken out of their checking account every month.
I went to a local PF for a year and it wasn’t a bad place. The big lifters were left alone, they did what they wanted and everyone got along. The really big lifters came in after 10. I recognized a few from the local Y which closed every night by 9. They’re all run a little differently from the few I’ve been in.

Well, I’m sure Edmund Hillary thought Mt. Everest was intimidating, but he didn’t demand its removal to avoid climbing it.

think of getting in shape as earning a college degree. I was intimidated by the advanced level classes, but they were not going to remove them from the curriculum. If they did, that degree/school would be a joke.
I just want you all to know that I am afraid of fire hydrants, because the water erupting from them is very phallic, because penis and patriarchy (aaaayyyy!) , so could we please ban them?
Yeah, mebbe one or two hundred people will die in a fiery inferno, but my feels people, my feels!!!

I do not understand the hate for Planet Fitness. It’s a gym that doesn’t have what I want, so I don’t go there. This is similar to why I don’t hate Weight Watchers. It’s a program many have had success with, but it’s not for me. So why would I hate it?
Not everyone wants or needs squat racks, free weight benches. And certainly most of the world doesn’t give a rat’s ass about building muscle. There’s nothing wrong with this.
Planet Fitness is hated primarily for their publicity campaign which stereotypes hardcore lifters as mindless baboons out of touch with regular people. It wouldn’t be something I took personally except for this notion that serious lifters dissuade people from going to the gym. It’s like something out of a Charles Atlas advertisement with the sand castle destroying, girlfriend stealing bully.
All corporate-style gyms view meat head types as a bad element. The management eliminates them by phasing out the training equipment that attracts them. That’s why some gyms don’t have squat racks, etc. It’s not because they don’t need them or that the clientele would be better off without them - it’s to attract a certain type of customer and dissuade another.
Planet Fitness have just taken it a step further by making their exclusion of the bodybuilder type their main selling point.

I was a little disappointed by the trolling in this video. If you go into a place looking for a confrontation, you need to have a response planned when the planned confrontation inevitably occurs. Admittedly the employee didn’t need any help being made to look like an insecure and incompetent fool. But these guys just sort of walked out with their tails between their legs.
And deadlifting in the smith machine (maybe they didn’t have any barbells)? And calling it 225 when you put two plates on each side of the smith machine? This clip was an all around disappointment.
I’m definitely in the minority here because I actually like PF. I don’t agree with their stereotyping but they are after a specific niche market. It’s true that they don’t have much in the way of free weights and they definitely emphasize cardio. They do have some good weight machines which work well enough for me when it comes to resistance training. I disagree that PF is only for “skinny fat” people. Their facilities are clean, quiet, and low-key which is hard to beat for $10 a month.

Its a gym that enables pussies.
Its a gym that claims discrimination is not allowed, yet discriminates against actual serious lifters.

Just messing with you :)
Are you one of “those” types of lifters who puts a big emphasis on the type of gym= type of man?
For all you know the guy going PF could be a soldier whose seen more shit than most “serious” gym-goers would see and has a very bad attitude when pushed.
