For the record, I’ve never laughed at rape jokes, nor contributed to any threads that find humor in rape. I’ve also stated several times in these forums that I don’t find humor in gifs, vids, and animated avatars that show violence against women of any kind.

Same as Taint.

What about violence against men?

I still think the rage in this thread is just worthless ranting and I’d be pretty shocked if anyone here actually took to any real activism or protests and I thinks that is because despite the complaining going on here it isn’t all that bad for you guys. The guy who got mutilated is obviously another story.
I do think grabbing on to this guys suffering as representation of all your suffering under the oppressive regime of women is almost as tasteless as making jokes about it.
Girl, please. There is no “collective butthurt”. You just got shown VIDEO of women laughing in big groups at real live criminal acts just because the victim was a guy. Your defense and that of others is that because COMEDIANS exist who make jokes about rape, this means it is the same as women collectively chuckling because a man gets his dick chopped off while he sleeps.
Big difference there.
Us pointing that out is not “collective butthurt”.
You and others acting like we are crazy for it is.
Please, show us where big groups of guys are being filmed laughing at women getting limbs amputated and raped.
is there any?
Wait, I mean NON-comedians…just in case that wasn’t clear.
I’m fairly certain the pictures posted earlier making light of domestic violence weren’t made by professional comedians. The fact that they’re still around suggests there’s a big group of guys who think they’re funny. Are you doing the ‘hear-no-evil, see-no-evil’ to pretend nobody with a penis finds those funny, or do you need video evidence to confirm the opposite?
As for your main beef, that women can find business like this funny in public and men can’t and that that’s wrong… You should seriously embrace the paternalism.
You are a tad slow here…as others seem to be.
Some random joke about NO ONE IN PARTICULAR is not the same at all as a bunch of people laughing at a REAL LIFE CRIMINAL ACT just because the victim is a member of the opposite sex.
Is this much clear to the people who keep bringing up joke pictures?
Is there some group of guys laughing their asses off at a real life situation where a guy killed his or tortured his wife?
If so, please point this out.
Is everyone clear now that a joke picture about no one is NOT the same?

Invalid comparison.
“Really glad you smacked her in the teeth.” <to a guy who relates actually hitting his wife)
“Ha ha, that’s funny that you anally raped her.” <to a guy who says he actually forced himself on a woman’s anus>
THESE would be the equivalents, not what you presented.
Exactly.
“Have you tried hitting her” between two guys who have NOT hit their wives is nothing like laughing at some act where a guy just got done beating his wife in a group of guys on national tv just because the victim was female.
I gotta come down on the side of X and ID.
I admit, sometimes humor goes to far for some. Hence the “is it too soon?” remarks. Further, I get the whole, “We have to laugh or we’d always be crying” bit. There is some truth to that. But there is just something about this that has really put me off. Maybe it is just too close to home for me.
I was once in a group of people who do a lot of work in the developing world. These were men and women. We were brought together because of a lot of shared beliefs. Female Genital Mutilation became a kind of “running joke” in the group. This was in the “we have to laugh or we’d cry” category. For the record, I never participated, but I did understand where they were coming from. Yet in the “Egypt” thread, I kinda went off on a few posters who were flat-out denying its existence in that country. I never would have gone off on the other group. The difference for me was simply “in-group and out-group” as it were. In the first group, there were a number of people who were actively involved in stopping FGM and all of us knew about it and had spent some time studying it. In the thread, there was ignorance and absurdity. Similarly, I think the “group dynamic” is different here. CNN?!? give me a break. That should have never aired. Maybe I’m just being uptight, but criminals (or insane people or whatever they are claiming she is) SHOULD be treated as they are.
I guess race jokes sometimes play a similar role. I remember going out to eat one night and the topic of race came up. Lots of people were making jokes and I realized I was the only “white male” in a rather large and diverse group. I made a joke about how only the educated can make these sorts of jokes because, for us, that type of thinking was absurd. The joke did not go over well. I don’t really know why. Perhaps it was because I was too drunk and didn’t tell it well, but I’m guessing it had to do with my being the only “white, male, heterosexual” at the table. I think it was a little too close to home, I didn’t know them all (or perhaps they didn’t all know me) as well as perhaps would be appropriate.
Anyway I guess the point of this rambling post is that, for me, jokes about genital mutilation aren’t really funny and they’re only appropriate in the right groups and situations. CNN or a studio with only women simply aren’t the right groups or situations. I’m probably just a prude though.
This really isn’t worth going over. Enjoy your indignation.
Also, and this is remarkably on topic… for those trying to even the odds against feminists, I stumbled across this earlier on. It is relative to your interests.

LOL. Thread’s been read close to 5,000 times. It would seem quite a few hold some interest in the topic.

But again, that’s not the point. I’s not us against them. You keep painting it that way, but no female here has failed to agree that the amputation was a Major Wrong Thing. I would imagine that the THOUSANDS of female media persons whose videos haven’t been linked here as evidence of “the double standard” would say the same.
But you know, you don’t actually NEED to justify your fear and loathing of women. If you feel there’s sufficient evidence for your fears, you should just go for it and stop seeking the agreement and approval of others.
and lol

Unfortunately, X, when people let emotions override common sense they miss the whole idea of comparing like things, i.e. they compare apples to oranges to make their point, when there really isn’t any. But then, that seems to be a trend here on Troll Nation, hence my lack of posts these past few months.
People bringing up stuff said on the internet like “try hitting her” as equivalents are missing the point. The internet is a cesspool of politically incorrect and outrageous humour. Something being said on the internet, especially by anonymous profiles, is not the same as something being said on TV. Racism isn’t culturally accepted but people make jokes online all the time that you’d never hear on another form of media. The same goes for jokes you and your buddies may say. If I say racist jokes around my friends that doesn’t make it socially acceptable to say around anyone else.
People were laughing on TV about someone mutilating a man’s genitals. Sure harsh jokes about men and women occur online, but could you imagine a TV host like Jimmy Kimmel saying it was funny if a women had her vagina hacked with a knife or something along those lines? And the audience laughing?
Fact is, it IS culturally more acceptable to laugh if it happens to a man, it’s wrong and there are negatives to this story and similar ones that people are ignoring.
The fact that being a male victim of sexual abuse or any sex-related crime is more likely to get you laughed at poses a bad scenario for any guy who does become a victim. I’m pretty sure men who are victims of any sexual crime are less likely to report it and this is a big reason why. There’s no sympathy if he does.
And I also want to make clear, that this isn’t about woman being insensitive–I’m sure many MEN laughed at this story, too.

What really gets me is they are telling me I “loathe women” for pointing it out…which is nothing but another way of saying get in line or else my manhood is in jeopardy for noticing it.
It seems to be a huge habit for them to make this some practice in personal attacks when they can’t actually defend their point of view well.
Right this minute, over on Estrogen Nation, they’re having a similar discussion. But instead of “have you tried hitting her?”, they’re asking, “have you tried lopping off his cock?”

I noticed that as well and it always seems to come from the same quarters which often makes me wonder how they handle real life situations as compared to the online posturing and chest thumping they exhibit on here.
