Another Penis Amputation

I don’t know, I feel like I’ve talked and talked and talked in various threads about violence against men and amendments to the Violence Against Women Act to support male victims and about my own personal feelings for the increased protections for men and against violence of every stripe. For fuck’s sake, how many times do I have to say it all? I work with both male and female victims and with both male and female perpetrators. I laugh at none of them.

I have very little emotion invested in this. Why would I? I don’t feel threatened by your stances. I more feel saddened that you guys seem to feel so embattled. My point was to ease your minds: “I’m not laughing, not all women feel that way, none of the women I know do!” WTF is the malfunction that this isn’t helpful?? It IS empathizing to agree that this amputation was horrific. However, this amputation is not the only horror nor the only fodder for laughter. Let’s be real. (Let’s TRY. I know it’s hard when you feel so knotted up!)

These accusations of hormones and demons are laughable given our relative tones and messages.

What if I just contact you, OG and change your mind? Does that count?

Emily, do you think this is an “anti-woman” thread?
Professor X wrote:
LOL at “anti-woman” thread. As if mentioning the problem means we hate women.

LO fucking L.
Well…getting upset when women agree with you is pretty weird, you’ve got to admit. It doesn’t suggest a lot of trust or warm feelings. I mean…if we were shouting in caps that the fuckers deserved it and it was funny as all hell, sure, your reaction would seem less…odd.

Pointing out that there is a lot of inappropriate laughter in the world because people are largely assholes does not really constitute fightin’ words when your point was that people shouldn’t laugh. So again…a little peculiar to be upset by it. To feel that you’re being asked to give up your, er…manhood.
Gambit_Lost wrote:

I think several posters are of the belief that women move in lockstep and have a frightening amount of influence on society. Those posters seem to feel that you are either on one side or the other. Hence I find THEM anti-women.

I don’t divide the world in those terms, personally, and don’t think most posters to the thread do. So the thread, no. But it’s turned into the same old anti-woman/society screed.

so

to the men that are lambasting all women in this thread. What do you want?

Every woman in this thread has been horrified.

Was that enough for you?
Gambit_Lost wrote:

Change my mind about what?

I like men… I live with very manly men… what the heck is there?

I do not adhere to the pussification of men BUT… DO NOT BLAME IT ON WOMEN.

what the heck… really?

I may have gone far afield of what you meant. My apologies.

It’d be fun to talk about.
I think this needs to be posted again. It appears people are forgetting, or perhaps not realizing, why this story so controversial.

Yeah, rape and genital mutilation and other heinous crimes against women happen every day, but the perpetrators are not invited onto tv shows to tell there story and then basically congratulated en masse.

This is how I read the issue as brought up by many of the posters in this thread.

Great I’m glad their personally horrified and are sure their female friends would be too.

We’re discussing how fucked up it is MANY women (not a small minority) out there think it’s okay to openly laugh about male genital mutilation on public television, especially in a non-comical environment. Evidence has been provided multiple times (CNN, Oprah), yet even with the evidence they keep denying it to be true.

If you want to talk about how poorly women are treated by men or female genital mutilation start another thread. Most of what you wrote is irrelevant to this thread.

Fair enough, but I think it’s making a pretty big leap to assume that this second amputation is going to follow the same trajectory as the first. Like penis amputation is the new Thing and people will applaud and applaud it because after all, you can’t have too much of a good thing.

But even if people DO applaud…it’s only some people. The idiots. They’re the people screwing up my morning commute. There are a lot of them, but they don’t represent the views of thoughtful people.

Could you guys quote the posts where I, or anybody else who has really contributed to the discussion, said that “all women” feel this way? More than one female poster has said that we are lumping all women together and that we think all women are laughing at this. I sure as hell don’t, because I personally know women that would never find this amusing. So you can keep insulting me for having a problem with all of the videos of crowds of women laughing at this, but don’t tell me, personally, that I think of all women this way. I don’t believe most of the people posting in this thread do. I don’t think Professor X is so uneducated that he believes that what some women think is what all women think, and I don’t think he has stated one single time that he does.

You can’t argue that it isn’t happening. You only have to watch the videos.

You can’t argue that it goes both ways until you show us any evidence of a group of men on a nationally televised show laughing while talking about a specific act of violence against women. I’m not talking about a non-specific joke. Something that involves real people, and real suffering, where the men are laughing about the violence. These women aren’t making jokes about the event, they are laughing and applauding ABOUT THE ACT ITSELF.

Nobody, NOBODY in this thread has suggested that there are not violent or disgusting crimes in which women are the victims. I would have noticed such a stupid statement, nobody said it. It is true that crimes against women do not always get national coverage, and it is true that this probably has a lot to do with the fact that they are a lot more common than crimes against men. Again, WHO IS ARGUING THIS? The argument is not that all men have it worse than all women, or that all women are horrible bitches, or any of that bullshit. What we have been discussing is the fact that there are MANY women who are delighted that another woman decided to punish her husband for wanting to divorce her, by cutting off his penis. That simply can not be argued against. It is a fact. None of the women that have posted feel that way, and that is wonderful. Nobody has accused you of feeling that way either, so there is no need to keep telling us.

Perhaps they don’t represent the views of thoughtful people, but they are obviously accepted/acceptable views in society.

This must be true, otherwise the CNN anchor would be fired, there would have been a backlash on Oprah, and that other show would have been demonized. You and I know this is true because we know that “had the roles been reversed” these things would have happened. I guess that is the point I took from this thread anyway.

Well how about we start a daily naming of female abuse victims and you can all talk about that?

Maybe that is what is needed in the GAL thread since what happened this time is so abhorrent it could never have happened before?

Right,… not the same thing cuz it happens so often to women and no I do not need to start a new thread because it won’t mean a thing to men like you.

And how about you tell me how many women that is that is amused? Then tell me how many men make rape jokes?

Sorry to hijack your thread.

And again… stop lumping all women together or I get to start doing all that to all you men.

This, probably, is what most posters on here are complaining about. This societal acceptance that is being described IS an issue. This post seems to be denying that.

Who is denying what? Please list the names of those women who have posted in this thread and not been horrified by what happened.

Then please list me the names of the men who are actively trying to stop female genital mutilation, or at least are daily protesting the DAILY ABUSE OF WOMEN.

edit:
This won’t get anywhere because this is coming across as a men against women thing. Just so you know, that is how it is coming across at last to me. Apparently so many of you do not know any decent women.

way to not get the point sweetheart. i wasn’t trying to downplay these horrible atrocities acted out on women. i was speaking to the point of the thread.

i could do the exact same thing you are and bring up the DAILY ABUSE, RAPE, AND GANG RAPE of male prisoners in war torn countires. but, i didn’t, because that’s not the point of this thread.

or, maybe i should just try hitting you, and see if it sinks in.

better yet, i’ll drug you, tie you up and mutilate your other breast then go on national tv expecting pats on the back.

you need to relax a bit sweetheart. have a drink.

Personally im not making light against violence that happens to women. I mean I dont think any woman deserves to have her clit or breasts cut off. What my problem is is with the double standards of it all. Like the CNN anchor asking if the woman could now laugh about her cutting off her husbands penis…and nothing happening behind it. There was a female jogger that was gang raped in central Park (Central Park jogger case - Wikipedia) back in 1989. It was a brutal case. Can you imagine a mainstream media news anchor sitting on live TV with one of the perpertrators and asking him if he could now laugh about it, while chuckling himself??

WE know that anchor would be fired w/o question! Were there any crowds of men laughing on tv when this case was mentioned? No. Its the double standards that im pointing out.
