Another Form Check Thread (Clean)

Hey DoubleDuce,

Just went through this thread, it was cool seeing your progress over the months! The last few vids you posted have an improved start position and first pull.

Two of the overriding factors I noticed throughout the vids was that you were soft through most of the lift (most importantly when racking the bar) and you need to whip your elbows round a lot faster.

Hope that helps![/quote]

The first pull is counter intuitive. Slow off the ground is smooth and smooth is fast. I feel way slower off the ground but way faster off my hips.

I’d really noticed the lack of tightness at the heavier weights. I start flopping all over the place racking the bar because I’m relaxing my core while dropping down. I’m trying to work on it, but it’s been difficult to break the habit. And I figured out that the bar has been drifting away from me because I haven’t been keeping my upper back tight on off the ground which has also been making receiving the bar more difficult. The bar ends up way closer when consciously think about my shoulder blades and upper back off the ground.

I’ve started to try learning the jerk and I dumped the bar behind me one time. It caught the edge of the platform and just missed hitting one of our cars. So, time for an upgrade. I built this over the weekend. This one is 6’x8’ (instead of 4’x6.5’) so I should have more room to miss. Horse stall matts on 2x10s on 4x4s on 6x6s. I’m thinking that should hold up.

Nice. Just don’t try to chase anything off the platform.

Updates, any advice (other than rounding over standing up)?

I’m having a problem getting comfortable with jerks. I’ve done all my pressing thumbless and jerks with a full grip. Can anyone tell me if it’s utterly stupid to jerk with a thumbless grip with which I’m far more comfortable?

How many reps are you doing in a workout?

On your jerk, thumbless is ok. No big deal. I jerk thumbless for exact same reason. you will loose press power as your wrists absorb force, but truthfully if this pushes you to rely more on dip and drive this is a good thing.

On your jerks, you need to get your weight on your heels. Keep elbows up. If you jerk from your toes the bar will end up in front where you can’t support it. Also, consider spending extra time trying to jerk low weight with speed and take pressing out of it.

I’m no muscle snatch expert. Try to keep the bar moving more vertical vs in a loop.
