Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 2)

This has been true for me as well. I have only recently realized that my “friends” don’t actually enjoy spending time with me.

Can’t say I blame them.

I’d double check the thickness and laminating (if you made the dough,) but most likely it was too hot too fast. Once the outside sets it’s not going to do anything but steam and get gummy. If it’s dark the temp is too high, if fat is leaking out the temp is too low.

Oven placement might matter too. Try the lower shelf and use more than one sheet tray if your heating element is on the bottom.

Also, some food porn for inspiration.

Taking initiative is such a great skill to have.

Not only is that person more useful, but taking initiative is a part of being a leader.

Week 4: Day 1

Squat: 1x1-195lbs beltless, 4x3-185lbs
press: 1x9,2x8-65lbs
abductor machine: 1x12, 2x11-110lbs
tricep pushdowns: 3x12-35lbs

  • legs were pretty pissed going in, top set felt fine but the reps sucked- felt like I had no power + was lightheaded, press harder than expected

ooh this is interesting. My shelf was high and the heat coil is at the bottom…

The fat was leaking, but that’s probably because fridge wasn’t cold enough.

good point!

I would not get along with myself lol

tbh, I am not surprised that no one invites me to hang out. I was more confused about having to initiate conversations- online or offline

Some (ostensibly evidence based) tips: don’t give too much praise/criticism for the outcome, reward the process and analyse failures with a focus on what can be improved

interesting. My original theory is that I have low social capital → am low priority for communication, which seems to be along these lines

I did not mean to imply that they did not enjoy spending time with you. That was meant to acknowledge my own shortcomings.

“Low social capital” makes more sense as it is the case with my son - an unathletic nerd (a term he embraces).

Less distractions.

Do you think it could have to do with your tendency to frame relationships in terms of their transactional value rather than enjoyment of the people themselves? I think social capital that is not bought via accomplishment (cool job, trophies, having a pool) comes from the feelings of intimacy, acceptance, or fun that are generated by interaction.

possibly, but I don’t know any other way

Week 4: Day 1

Paused deadlift: 1x3-235lbs, 3x4-225lbs, I HATE these
DB bench: 3x5-50lbs, proper bench was taken and wasn’t going to wait
Leg extensions: 2x9,1x8-100lbs
adductor machine: 1x12,11,10-55lbs

  • gym was packed this morning- guessing people getting ahead of president’s day??? anyways was super tired and REALLY didn’t want to do paused deadlift but sort of got them done??, Bench and lat pulldown machines were taken so I did a bit of a switchup

Updates: School

  1. Research is taking off somewhat- I’m actually starting a collaboration with someone on a discord server. My main project is super exciting and happens to be with a CMU prof. Might even be able to finally do some networks stuff.
  2. Classes are manageable. Like in undergrad, I sometimes feel like I’m managing a supply chain instead of doing psets, but unlike undergrad, I’ve become a middle man instead of the producer at the end of the chain. For some reason, people think I “have resources” and am able to provide assistance  Has lead to many “blind leading the blind” scenarios.
I’m just glad grades don’t matter anymore

I wouldn’t view it as a lack of social capital, which assumes investment in social outcomes such as popularity or leadership. I would say that if people are responsive to you when you reach out, you are succeeding at your social goal, which seems to be along the lines of collaboration or mentoring. That you are not being rejected for these things indicates success, which we could certainly call a form of social capital. If you’re getting “Hi Anna! Sure, here’s what I did…” you’re winning at the game as you prefer to play it.

If you’re looking for something more, e.g. that people stop by just to chat, check your nonverbals. If I were to stop in the doorway of 9/10 of my colleagues’ offices and say “hey, how’s it going?” a chit-chat would ensue. The 10th would look at me in confusion, waiting for me to get to the point. The same 9/10 stop in my doorway for no reason. Yesterday the newest team member stopped for the first time - she’s been around since July - and we talked about how I almost threw up during my 9:00 because my client is depressed and had god-awful hygiene and breath. We’ve moved into a new phase of our relationship - I can now stop at her office for no reason. The chit-chat barrier has been breached.

The 10th person (seems to) assume that if you’re in her doorway you want something. In three years I’ve initiated conversation with her maybe three times. With everyone else it’s more like 3x/wk.

exactly, which is why I’m not bothered.

interesting. perhaps “emotional capital” or not having an emotional “layer” in the friendship.
I’m toying around with a couple of ideas around this and wanted non-academic insights

Forgive me if I’ve got the wrong impression, but it seems to me that I’m reading a lot of these sorts of comments lately.

Are you hanging in alright, @anna_5588?

No, not wrong impression. I feel tired and shite. idk why though… Training volume is down, schoolwork is mild compared to undergrad

Normally I go through a shite period from the week before midterms to the week before finals, but this just feels more shite than usual.

Edit: I’m doing better than I was last quarter.

Are you at midterms already? Or past them? I have no idea how a quater-system works… (I’m assuming you’re on a quater-system in CA, but maybe that’s not even right?)

I’m going to ask the obvious next question: Are you eating enough?

Regardless, I was happy to read this:

Hah! You just clarified the quater-system question for me.

And I’m happy to read things are going better than before.

yeah, had them last week. game theory last week- not a s bad as I expected tbh, waiting for scores

I hate quarter system…

I think so? I’m very very very slowly losing weight (e.g., 1lb every 6 weeks lol). Also more satiated than expected.

Week 5: Day 2

Not sure if gym will happen on Sunday so making sure to get the “heavy” deadlifts in
