Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

Is this confusing to you? Or is this a cavalier remark?

It is a statement of fact.

Also, I am somewhat confused. I am usually not hungry the day after eating more, especially if that surplus comprises primarily of protein and fats (aka always)

When I cut weight for my last powerlifting meet, I was hungry for the entire week afterwards, despite eating in a clear surplus daily.

I haven’t been on a cut recently

There’s no reason my appetite should have suddenly changed. Oh well.

I believe there are reasons myself, but once again, I am a huge fan your tenacity here.

Have you ever done any supplemental learning about diet or exercise and physiology? Like, real textbook type stuff?

Not dogging you, just genuinely curious.

nope, I’m interested but not interested enough

Many intelligent people ignore facts so that they can continue believing what they want to believe. I think this relates to why you are not interested in understanding or at least accepting basic physiology.

It’s that I lack the mental energy. Too many things to learn, not enough mental energy

I’m struggling through probability and taxes as my primary “side learning” things rn. After those would be real analysis and python

Where do you think that lack of energy comes from?

To not write an essay and go all scientific I’ll explain it in a simple way:

  1. When your body is in a state of underfeeding (whether its caloric restriction, or chronic over exercise etc) it does a lot of things one of those things being regulating hunger receptors. (It makes no sense for a starving creature where food is scarce to constantly be hungry)

  2. When you eat more food/ are in a surplus for a day while being underfed your body makes the most of it but at this point it does not change much (A creature who has been starving can have a successful hunt but at this point makes no sense for it to be constantly hungry again )

  3. When you eat food in a surplus for multiple days after being underfed your body adapts the hunger receptors to make you eat more in case you are underfed again. ( This is no longer a one off. A creature who has been starving and who has found himself somewhere where prey is abundant has to consume as much as it an as fast as it can so it makes sense for it to be hungry)

I get your point. The thing is that learning other things is higher on my priority rn. I listen to fitness podcasts from reputable sources (3dmj, mindpump) but am not sufficiently invested to dig into the academic work myself

It’s not about fitness podcasts. Your whole log dances around the bigger issue at hand. Really, it’s remarkable. You’ve been honest in a few instances, but I have not once seen you admit that you have a problem which you refuse to solve.

Week 1: Day 3

Sledding- 30min. It was an hour but we alternating

Bench: 1x5-20,30,35; 1x5-40,45, 1x6-50; 2x13, 2x12-40
DB row: 7x10/side-25lbs
Btn press: 3x8-20kg
Curls: 3x(7-wide grip+7-regular grip+7close grip)-15lbs (just the ez bar)
Sledding- 30min. It was an hour but we alternating

  • felt pretty good- bench went smoothly. I’m not increasing the weights on my upper body lifts, just playing with cramming the BBB sets, the BTN press felt good, overall solid
  • sledding was AMAZING! It was quite scary going downhill, but I got the hang of it. walking up hill was hard LOL, I also had to defrost my feet

Week 1: Day 4

Press: 1x5-20,25,30; 2x5,1x6-35; 1x15, 2x12, 1x11-25
Deadbug: 6x10/side
Incline press: 4x5-95lbs
3x(12 tricep extensions+16face pulls)-22.5lbs
Conditioning: 1-7 devils press, w/ same number of lying leg raises btw sets
DB snatches: 2x3/side-45lb DB

  • supossed to deadlift but legs not feeling great- decided to press, 35kg felt heavier than expected, BBB weights felt light- really worked shoulders, incline bench went well, surprised that I could do the snatches

Update:

  • School has started. We’re online for the first two weeks and tbh I like that. Most of my classes are lecture based and lectures are so much better remote. THere’s also a LOT of crossover between my classes so that’s also nice. THis includes ppl. I think there’s a 50% overlap in people between two of my classes LOL. I have a “team” (basically my two friends- actual friends since they’re female) who are in the two semi difficult classes with me. It’s going to be a great semester! @cyclonengineer
  • I am meeting with my advisor (the nitpicky one) on saturday. I am EXTREMELY scared, like REALLY scared. We are going to discuss the future of the project. I’ve been wanting to ask him about this for a year now and never had the courage. I won’t be surprised if he pulls the plug, but I would be pretty disappointed bc I put a LOT of effort and a couple hundred dollars into this study. I’d also have less to show on my resume. With that said, this experience has been very valuable. I get a feeling for what I DON’T want in grad school… and a partner. My advisor is an exceptional person, but I don’t think I could handle the pressure of working with someone like him (going MIA, nitpickiness…)
  • I met with a classmate today and had an amazing discussion. We talked about classes and normal stuff, but spent most of the time talking about our personal ambitions. He is the first classmate I’ve met who shares and is comfortable sharing financial ambitions. I look forward to picking his brain. The other great thing about him is that, as far as I am aware, he has a girlfriend so I don’t have to worry about confusion on that front- a la gym buddy. Unfortunately, he is not into econ research, so I still need to find an outlet for that.

Yeah!

This happens as you go up in your major. It thins out. My freshman year we had 161 declared aerospace engineers. 4 years later we graduated with 57. Senior year was all the same folks. Makes it nice, you learn everyone’s strengths.

I am ready to go back for my doctorate but have to get my wife through law school first. No way we can both be in school with family (not that I would trade that for anything either - it’s just balance).

Applied maths?

Or pure mathematics. I have to explore a little bit more.

Oh! that would be really cool
I’d imagine it would be a big shift from the maths for engineering.
I’m in a server with a bunch of high level STEM ppls and there’s usually a pretty lively maths chat. THe physics and engineering ppl tend not to enjoy the pure maths stuff very much LOL
