Also, when I was at office hours with my friend’s advisor, I explained that my project was being delayed because of typos, he said “typos are fine”, then “are you working with [my advisor’s name]”
Here is that determination in play
Well what can you do?
I mean, you know where I went. Not the same place, but on par for transfer of credits anyways.
And I’ve seen garbage cans full of papers that could have been good if they just used spell check, double spaced, what ever point helvetica.
finish the project, move on. This one probably isn’t going to work anyways. Basically he’s inspecting the windshield for dust as the car moves towards a cliff. The pilot data looks somewhat promising, but the high error rate on attention checks indicates some pretty serious methodological issues that hadn’t been caught. I’m kind of just waiting for the meeting when he says that the study is hopeless
This already happened once, but to a smaller degree. I had some pictures I’d put in the survey as stimuli. For three weeks, the project got delayed bc i’d made mistakes like writing “pre- tax” instead of “pre-tax”. He suddenly came to the realization that the pictures weren’t going to work
Anyways, I have three more projects lined up to worry about
Yep.
Good.
Week 4: day3 (yesterday)
- Felt pretty good going in, deadlifts went very smoothly, happy w/sets at 95 kg but realized that I used to be able to do 8x3 emom with that weight
, supersetted flyes wjth deads, bench moved well, did lunges w/115, got a barbell by some miracle
Fair point. My youngest son is like that sometimes, he starts talking about what all he’s going to do with a new job, when all his raise points are, the car he’s going to buy once he’s making $xx.xx/hour and looking at houses to buy, when he hasn’t started his first day yet. Getting excited about the prospects of success is great, but you have to put the work in to succeed first.
The trick with a project like that is to accurately and completely itemize the results even when they’re not what you were hoping for. Even if you didn’t accomplish what you set out to, you’ve still accomplished something, even if that’s just to prove that the methodology you used needs refining. Of course, I come from a field where integrity is everything, and we never fudge on anything even if it leads us down a path that makes us shut the plant down because we’re being ultraconservative. It’s always emphasized constantly in the nuclear power field that our primary job is to protect the health and safety of the public. Producing power is secondary to that.
This is still over 2x your BW which is impressively strong for someone your size.
I have the pilot data and have met with a couple of grad students. There are some pretty big red flags popping up with the methodology. The number of conditions is kind of ridiculous based on these conversations and over 40% of people failed the attention check because they couldn’t distinguish between the faces.
One of the grad students I met with who is also under my advisor flat out questioned if my advisor approved of my design.
It’s been over 20 meetings since I “finalized” my design with him and he hasn’t once questioned it. I will bring this up next meeting and see what happens. I’m not optimistic
I’m more pissed at the regression
I understand that, but weren’t you doing that before surgery (therefore in an unhealthy state), COVID and the like?
Sometimes, circumstances are completely out of one’s control. Not to be harsh here, but you either focus on the past or the future, I rarely see stuff focused on the present (it’s good to have the goals you have for strength, but focusing on where you were does not get you there). As someone who also tends to focus on either past or future, I understand it’s tough to see all that is currently going right.
I have had the same observation.
Week 4:day4(yesterday)
Giant set: pull-ups- straight arm pull down- cable row
3x(3pullups+10pulldowns-22.5lbs+10cable rows-55lbs)
Superset: close grip bench- chins
3x (10close grip bench-30kg+4 chins)
Incline bench: 3x5-95lbs
Btn press: 3x8-20kg
- was pretty tired but wanted to get some work in, everything felt good, got a really nice back pump,
Week 4: day5
- felt very easy, everything moved fast, did a giant set for accessories- good morning w/30kg, dips, db bench fly things
@cyclonengineer @wanna_be i was talking to my maths group about my friend and they unanimously agreed that my “contribution” is that I am his “oestrogen fix”. It got me thinking and makes so much sense. Would you guys agree?
Anna I’m a hillbilly who works outside. I don’t even know what that means.
They think he agreed to help me because I am a female who gives him attention
I have no way to agree or disagree. The possibilities are endless. I would just quit worrying about it and do it and try to enjoy/learn from it.
I am not the guy to ask about this either. On the Autism spectrum and social interactions and the reasons behind them elude me.
Why can’t he simply like who you are as a person?
Is this called for in the program, or is all your pressing already outlined in the 3 weekly sessions?
