There’s a Golden Corral about an hour away from me. A favorite thing is to spend a couple of hours at the trampoline park nearby, then go to GC. OMG, just the best combination of delights. Prodigious hunger + all the mashed potatoes and southern style green beans I can eat (along with all the other things) = genuine joy.
I went shopping in that area last week and the GC was closed. Will it ever reopen?
I live in a low-incidence area, and my Golden Corral was relatively new and very clean. I would totally eat there again, particularly if they made concessions to Covid (e.g. have people to serve it, as they do at the roast beef station).
I made a massive omlette for breakfast and will split a rack of lamb between lunch and dinner. Will also have protein bar and 4oz goat cheese as snacks
@cyclonengineer@EmilyQ The though of Golden corral make me sick It’s the ONLY place I’ve ever gotten food poisoning at, and I’ve eaten a fair share of probably non- health code compliant foods at non- health code compliant places
My dream “cheat day” would be a small crispy skin roast chicken (like nandos) for breakfast, seafood buffet for lunch and roast suckling pig and char siu for dinner
I once witnessed a wedding reception at a Golden Corral in Carbondale, IL (if you have been to that city, this shouldn’t surprise you). Smallest person in the entire reception was probably 250 lbs.
It was an interesting sight but also I couldn’t fault them for the relative frugality of this choice.
Golden Corral is okay, but my favorite buffet-ish place if there’s one available is HuHot Mongolian Barbeque! You can pile your choice of meats, veggies, noodles and sauces together, have them grill it for you, and go back as many times as you want! I’ve put away 4K calories in a sitting there, easily.
On a different note, a trend I’m seeing in Anna’s food descriptions is plenty of protein and fat, but a distinct lack of carbs. I know carb restriction is all the rage in some circles, but your body and brain need enough if them to function correctly. Something to think about, Anna.
I have been to a few of these. I put about 3 to 4 rice noodles in each bowl and stack the rest to overflowing with protein and veg. And then i proceed to eat 4 or 5 bowls. At least there they cook it hot and fresh and you know it hasn’t been sitting under a warming lamp.
Edit: I love the sauce names there - “Kenghis Kahn’s Revenge”, “Hoison Horde” etc…
Heheh, I go with 2 bowls per trip through the line, one with noodles and veggies, the other all meat!
edit: I also like that they have the sauces scaled from L-R by spiciness.
I have veggies during the day (which I refuse to track but come out at ~250 or so kcal) and usually 20-30g honey as a before bed snack (if I’m not having cheese). A lot of carb sources mess with my digestion
That’s how I usually eat, except instead of the lamb I usually have 8-10oz fish. When I’m at school, it’ll probably switch to chicken
